Nov 16, 2014 7:32 PM in response to Jef255by ricclarke,I am having the same problem, but in addition, the page up/down buttons behave exactly the same as the individual up/down arrows. I expected the page buttons to jump to the next set of icons on the left. Also, sometimes the scroll bar works but one click in it takes me to the last picture which can be down several pages.

Nov 17, 2014 6:19 PM in response to Jef255by ricclarke,Obviously a bug but I discovered that if I select View - Content Only, and then back to Thumbnails, the scroll bar works correctly.

Jan 28, 2015 7:27 AM in response to Jef255by ZNickey,I have this issue too and 10.10.2 did not fix it.
Any update on how to stop the scroll bar from going haywire in Preview? This is incredibly frustrating

Mar 10, 2015 12:45 PM in response to Jef255by hermes_jr,I'm having the same bug in 10.10.2 (14C1510).
Furthermore, there's another interface bug in System Information.app, which appeared at about same time as the bug in question. Sys info app behaves like it does calculate window width once at start and divide it by 2, so all text is being wrapped at center of window. Maybe something is wrong with interface rendering engine or window manager.

May 12, 2015 6:29 AM in response to Jef255by Yebedyah,10.10.3 same problem here. Does anyone have some solution? Switch to different type of view (for example Content only) and then back to thumbnails works only for few minutes. I need to fix this

May 12, 2015 1:46 PM in response to Jef255by Eric Root,Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.

Jan 4, 2016 10:35 AM in response to Jef255by Pecalunus,Yeah, this is still an issue in El Capitan, too. The last bug I found in the Preview app took Apple 5 years and 3 operating systems later.
This seems to be an issue only when an external usb keyboard is attached to my computer, so the workaround for me is to use the keyboard built into my MacBook Pro, which rarely do when I'm at home. -
Mar 29, 2016 8:11 AM in response to Jef255by ArchonOSX,When I delete a page it goes immediately to the full scroll bar as you have in your screenshot.
When I re-size the window it goes away but sometimes comes right back.
Clicking in the margin between the scroll bar and the document seems to fix it for that instance.
I have narrowed the problem, or part of it, to the scroll wheel on my Logitech mouse.
When I use the arrow keys it does not do this behavior.
I have the same mouse at work and home and it does the same thing on a Mac Pro and an iMac.
Continueing to try to narrow it down further.

Apr 23, 2016 6:01 PM in response to ArchonOSXby Portland Phan,Misery loves company, I suppose -- but ArchonOSX exactly describes my experience when I replaced my 2009 iMac a couple of weeks ago with a new iMac that includes El Capitan. I was also super frustrated at not being able to disable the vertical scrolling on the Magic Mouse 2, which seemed to be causing the jumping in Preview (and issues in Safari and Photoshop) for me. I use Preview to sort images in batches of 100-200, and it's been perfect for this in the past -- although another bug popped up several years ago, and hasn't been resolved: when dragging a batch of images to Preview to sort, the first image in the alphabetical list is dumped randomly in order in the Preview sidebar, usually somewhere toward the bottom of the pile. An annoyance, but not nearly so problematic in my workflow as the scroll bar issue.
Resizing the window works for me, too -- just not convenient, so for now I'm arrowing through the thumbs (which feels very PC-like!). I've also noticed that when arrowing through thumbs, going from a landscape-format image to a vertical image will usually bring back the scroll bar until I delete the next image. Then the bug reappears.

Apr 23, 2016 6:10 PM in response to Portland Phanby Portland Phan,This bodes poorly for the future of Preview: unless I missed something, it's not even listed among the apps on Apple's feedback page.
Hopefully, Apple isn't planning to sunset this wonderful little app... :-/

Jul 19, 2016 9:30 AM in response to Jef255by TomMcIn,Bugs in Preview - Full Height Thumbnails Scroll Bar, White Thumbnails after file renamed, _ prefixed Filenames not sorted same as Finder and Sort Orders Forgotten on Quit. This is a work horse of a program that I use to review and clean out and up hundreds of photos. Hopefully, the people that wrote have the pride and are given the resources to give it the expected Apple App characteristics of simplicity and quality.
