Q: Aperture 3.6 and iPhoto 9.6 in Yosemite opens to a blank workspace

After upgrading to Yosemite 10.10 and Aperture 3.6 I was initially able to open my photos library (led on an external thunderbolt drive, over 63000 images, and over 350 Gb). Then yesterday, upon opening Aperture I get a message that the file needs to repair permissions in iPhoto in order to open. I don't use iPhoto, but knowing there is a unified file structure, I downloaded iPhoto and repaired the file permissions. Upon completion, iPhoto and Aperture open to the default external photos file but a blank screen comes up in Aperture, and a introductory screen comes up in iPhoto. I have gone thru the process of:

1) opening both apps with "command" "option"  and progressing down the repair/rebuild options with the same end result.

2) initiated a time machine restore. A message box comes up asking me if I want to keep the original photo files, make duplicates, or replace the existing files. I chose to keep the originals.

After the backup the same result occur as before. What should I try next?

I have plenty of space. I will run a rebuild one more time just in case. I removed iPhoto from my computer. When I rebuild from the old Photos file will I lose my ratings? I have been in the process of creating a reference file system, adding new photos in a referenced file, and slowly moving older files to referenced. Does this change your suggestion to rebuild?

I tried importing my entire defective library named "photos" into the new Aperture Library only to end up with an empty Library. As a test, I created a new Aperture Library on my HD with one photo in it and successfully imported the one photo library into my Aperture Library on my Pegasus Drive. I went back and compared the contents of the two Aperture Libraries and the Photos Library. The newly created

Aperture Libraries have 9 files each with a "masters" file that contains the photos, the slightly older Aperture Library on the Pegasus drive we used to attempt to import the "photos" library into has some additional files mostly pertaining to iPhoto and iLife:Screen Shot 2014-10-25 at 10.46.26 PM.pngScreen Shot 2014-10-25 at 10.46.40 PM.png

The legacy "photos" library has numerous other folders including "old masters" which contains all of my lost photos, and and empty "masters" file:

I am tempted to import just the old masters file into my new library but I am afraid I might lose all the work I have done on those photos such as ratings and versions of those photos, metadata, and RAW data. Any suggestions on how I should proceed?

I am experiencing the same problem. After opening my library in iPhoto (because Aperture told me to do so), I now get a blank workspace when opening the library. I can see that all of my originals are there in the "Old Masters" folder, but the "Masters" folder is empty. Is there anything I can do to fix the library, or is there no choice but to import the masters into a new library?

Just the same problem for me (Yosemite 10.10.2, Aperture 3.6). I tried to open my Aperture library and it said to open it in iPhoto to upgrade the library. After update my Aperture has no photos at all. All my photos are in Old Masters folder:aperture.png

My library size is 410Gb including LOTS of metadata, ratings, versions etc. Do not want to lose those ;(
