Unread mail count not showing in dock for Yosemeite mail

I noticed today that the mail icon on my desktop dock does not show the unread mail count for Yosemite mail. This is how I have the preferences set, but still no count gets tagged to the dock mail icon. I have tried setting the "dock unread count" to All mailboxes and Inbox only with no success.

Any thoughts on what I have set wrong, or how I can correct this?

Hi, Gary.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

This sounds like the badge app icon option is not selected in System Preferences > Notifications > Mail. If this preference is checked, try removing the preference and select it again.
