Why does dication need to know my location?

Why does dication need to know my location? Why can't I disable location services just for dictation? If I want to disable, I have to disable Siri location services too?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1

I just figured that every time it tries to locate me... it is using up valuable battery consumption...? My thought process is: Dictation doesn't need my location to have an imessage type “I’ll be home for supper”...? It never needed my location in previous ios versions, why now?

I'd like to use location services for Siri, because it's handy when needed...!

Dictation and Siri are closely related services in iOS. If you disable location services for Siri, it still works (but is limited in what it can respond to).

But if you do not have an issue with Siri using dictation services, why worry about dictation using it?

No, it is not using any appreciable battery when it access location services. Less than Siri request, I would imagine. Moot point however. If you wish to use locations services with Siri, then it will be turned on for dictation as well. Not something you can change.
