Problems with SPSS 22

Dear all:

After update my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), to Yosemite, my SPSS 22 is not working correctly (continues fail and I need to force reload) . I also update Java, reinstall the SPSS and the problems continue. I also had problems in the past "trying to open" SPSS but I use a command trick.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

I have exactly the same problem with SPSS 21. Like Jeamoros, I used to do the Terminal command trick when I had Mavericks, but it no longer works with Yosemite.

The funny thing is that I have three Macs (2008 Macbook Pro, 2009 iMac, and 2013 iMac). I installed Yosemite in all three. SPSS 21 still works on 2009 iMac, but doesn't work on 2008 Macbook Pro and 2013 iMac. I have no idea why the oldest machine and the newest machine fail to work, while the intermediate one does, when they are all running the identical OS (10.10).

Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

So, it mean that you have already tried IBM's advice and it did not work?

1. Download and re-install Apple Java 6

- After the Mac OSX upgrade is finished, Apple Java 6 may no longer exists on your upgraded system. - If you then launch Statistics 22 which is an application that relies on Java 6, the Mac OS pops up a dialog box stating Java 6 was requested, but none is present.

- The Java dialog has a "More Info" button, which when clicked opens a browser to an Apple Tech Support page for Apple Java 2014-001. A download link is provided:

http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572

- You must click on the download link and a DMG containing the Java 6 installer is downloaded.

- Then you must open the Java DMG, then double click on the Java installer, follow the prompts and complete the installation of Java 6.

2. Re-license Statistics 22

- IBM SPSS Statistics use Safenet Sentinel technology for licensing. Safenet writes hidden data somewhere on-disc for keeping track of licensing data.

- The OS X 10.10 upgrade process erases that hidden data. Attempting to run Statistics produces a licensing error and a previous installed Statistics 22 does not start/run properly.

- As a solution you will need to Re-run the SPSS License Authorization Wizard, enter your authorization code again and complete the licensing procedure.

- A previous installed Statistics 22 on 10.9 should run again normally after the OS X upgrade to Yosemite 10.10.

Hi Lyn

Maybe your situation is different from that of jeamoros, I read IBM's notice, your SPSS 21 is not supported on Mavericks or Yosemite.

Current releases 21 and 22:

- IBM SPSS Statistics 21 release is supported on Apple Macintosh OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7 (Lion), and 10.8 (Mountain Lion) with Intel processor.

- IBM SPSS Statistics 22 release is supported on Apple Macintosh OS X 10.7 (Lion) and 10.8 (Mountain Lion) with Intel processor.

- IBM SPSS Statistics 22 is NOT supported for Apple Macintosh OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

- Please also note:IBM SPSS Statistics 22 was developed and released prior to Apple's release of OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). However, as per SPSS Product Management Statistics 22 can be installed on Mac OSX 10.9 if you install Apple Java SE 6 (1.6.0_65) on OS X 10.9 first before you install Statistics 22. Please seehttp://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572 for download.

- On Thursday, October 16th 2014, Apple released the latest Mac OS X: 10.10 (Yosemite). Although Statistics 22 was released prior to Apple Mac OS X 10.10. Statistics 22 can run on this OS.

Yes, I know that the IBM notice you quote appears to suggest (although it does not state definitely) that SPSS 21 is not supported on Yosemite. However, as I mentioned before, SPSS 21 runs on my two older machines with Yosemite (2008 PBP and 2009 iMac). It's only on the 2013 iMac, also running Yosemite, that I cannot run SPSS 21. So the problem is not with Yosemite per se, but it has something to do with something that I have (or don't have) on my 2013 iMac.

I have problem installing SPSS 22 on my Macbook Pro running OS 10.10.1. It asks for Java SE 6 ..., but I installed Jave 8u25, and it should a better option since it is the most recent update for Java. I noticed that some other people also encountered with the same problem installing Photoshop, etc. Does anyone know a solution?

I have the same problem as Avanab, I have tried re-installing SPSS 22 and Java SE 6 but they both won't work. Every time I click on SPSS, the icon bounces up and down and forces quit itself. There's no error message that shows up or anything so I don't know how to figure out what's wrong, I really need it to work soon :/

Might have been a fluke, but after installing Java 6, Java 8, reinstalling SPSS 22 twice... the only thing that worked for me was using AppCleaner (yeah, I know) to remove the 'saved state' data. After that SPSS still bounced in the dock a few more times than you'd expect, but then it started. First time in a month. Fingers crossed...
