Oct 24, 2014 4:09 PM in response to Jennie58by tijania,Be careful!! I ran the update last night & 20min later my ipad3 was completely frozen. I powered it off & when it turned back on, I had to connect it to iTunes for a factory reset. 4hrs of updates and NEVER had problems SMH
Feels like apple is putting out crap now that Jobs is gone. The last update made my ipad run slow & freeze constantly

Oct 24, 2014 5:05 PM in response to Jennie58by Star Traveler,It wasn't put out today, but three days ago ... :-) ... and people have "been all over it" ... inside and out.
There is a thread that was put up the same day it came out, three days ago, and has quite a few observations about it.

Oct 24, 2014 5:09 PM in response to Jennie58by Star Traveler,AND ... if you decide to update it to iOS 8.1 from iOS 8.0.2 ... then you should do so as a "clean system" and not over your present corrupted system files on your current system. To do that, use your iTunes program, and reset to factory default. This will give you a clean and fresh system, without any corrupted system files, just like it came off the factory floor! And ... always make sure to do your backups. The iTunes backup is preferable.

Oct 24, 2014 6:06 PM in response to Star Travelerby Thatchcote,Star Traveler is SO right about installing a new OS on an older device. It's MUCH safer and will clean out the crude you've accumulated on my device.

Oct 25, 2014 7:05 AM in response to Thatchcoteby WillyBill65,Updating to 8.1 was a waste of time.. I had done three full restores with two back to factory new by Apple "Geniuses" . This 8.1 update has only made my iPad4 worse.. Had eight freezes and re-boots this morning after a half hour of use.

Oct 26, 2014 11:18 AM in response to WillyBill65by Star Traveler,I'm running an iPad 4, too and with no problems. Now, what that means for "you" is that it's technically feasible for iOS 8.1 to run fine on an iPad 4. If it wasn't okay, then it would not be running on any of them. Therefore, you'll just have to keep going down the troubleshooting trail. And I noticed that you said you had been through several processes before ... but there is one process that I'm not sure you have done yet. Have you reset your iPad 4 to factory default through your iTunes program and NOT restored your backup? In other words, left your iPad 4 in the same state it was in, before you ever added any of your data or any of your apps?
That's a troubleshooting methodology in which you'll see if that iPad 4 runs as its supposed to "right off the factory floor" so to speak, and before you ever start using it for your own stuff. I would verify that iPad 4 in that condition first, before going any further with it.
Here are the links I've put up for doing that (including doing your backups).
