Q: iPhone 6 Reboots

Recently saw today, 10/24/14, on Yahoo that the iPhone 6 Plus 128gb phone seems to be having a rebooting issue. But I wanted to create a post to explain that it's not just the iPhone 6 Plus 128gb that is doing it. I have the iPhone 6 64gb that has rebooted itself about 3-4 since I've had it. I've had it the day it was released, and between then and now it has rebooted on iOS updates 8, 8.0.2 and 8.1 (wasn't able to down load 8.0.1 before they took it down) at random times. Don't remember whether I was texting, on an app or something when it rebooted but it did reboot on its own when I was using it and go back to home page. My fiance's phone, also a iPhone 6 64gb, I have also seen it reboot once since she got it and she got hers about two weeks after release date.

So I'm not trying to get any help, unless there is some lol, or get a new phone, unless I can somehow haha, just wanted to create a thread explaining that it's just not the iPhone 6 Plus 128gb but others as well.

If anyone else is having same issue across all iPhone 6's please join in. Thanks.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1

    Hi brendanzc,

If you are having an issue with your iPhone restarting unexpectedly I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

iOS: Device unexpectedly restarts, displays Apple logo, or powers off

Specifically, since you already have the latest version of iOS -

If you still see this issue after updating, contact Apple Support.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Best,

    Hi,

I have an iPhone 6 64GB and I face similar problem too since 2 weeks ago. I just got my phone 4 weeks ago. My phone restarts almost as often as I use it. Even during incoming calls and there are no apps running in the background. My software is the latest version. If I turn off location service for all apps, I might as well use an ancient model phone right?

Could anyone help or suggest something else that I can do about this?

    Thanks.

Hello brendanc many ppl are having this issue. Apple used a new  storage technology called TLC NAND flash. It is said that the TLC NAND flash is the problem. Some handsets have different flash chips called MLC NAND flash and those phones have no problem. Don't know if this is something that Apple can fix with a software update or not. For now there is no recall but if you are having issues you can try to get it replaced at the Apple store but I don't believe there is a way to figure out if you got a handset with TLC NAND flash or MLC NAND flash. The only phones that have MLC NAND flash are the 16gb iPhone 6 hence they are not having the same issue. TLC NAND flash stores more data the MLC but writes slower than MLC. Hope I helped good luck with everything.

I had been using an iPhone 5 for two years five months.  A week ago it started rebooting every minute.  I looked online for info about the iPhone 5 rebooting itself and many of the people were told by Apple that it was a hardware problem and to go to Apple to get a replacement phone.  Due to the age of my phone I didn't think Apple would give me a new phone so I decided to upgrade and got an iPhone 6.  After I got the iPhone 6 the iPhone 5 stopped rebooting.  Argh.  Not only that, but I was using the iPhone 6 last night and it rebooted, but only once.

My plan is to take both phones to the Genius Bar and ask for an explanation.  If it is a software problem I wonder if they will take the iPhone 6 back and I'll keep using my iPhone 5.  But the cell phone is my only phone, and I don't want to be using the iPhone 5 and then have it start rebooting every minute when I am trying to use the phone at an important time.

When I was using the iPhone 5 when it rebooted, I looked through the app update and the only thing that had updated that day was Instagram.  I deleted the Instagram app but the phone kept rebooting.  I was using the latest iOS but hadn't updated it in at least a month.  The phone had been reliable for the entire time I had it.  The fact that the new iPhone 6 rebooted in its first week of use is disconcerting.

By the way if you look online for reports of the iPhone rebooting itself, leaving out the version of the phone, you'll see that all versions of the iPhone have had rebooting issues.  I've had many versions of the iPhone back to the iPhone 2, and some of them have been jailbroken and (non-factory) unlocked, and have never had the rebooting problem on any of them.  The iPhones have been more reliable than the flip phones for me.
