IS the ipad air 2 smart case is the exact same dimensions as the older Air?

You are NOT reading my post correctly! YES the case is nice! I love it! BUT that does not change that I think it's the same old case they used for last years iPad Air! You get what I'm saying? I believe they did not make the case for the Air 2 to reflect the thinner iPad Air 2's dimensions. The Air 2 case is the exact same as last years Air case, but with cut-outs to match the Air 2. The case should be thinner, but it's not! I had the Air, but I sold it before I could compare the two. If you do not have a 2013 Air, how would you know? See what I'm saying?

When you close the case, but open up the first flap(with the magnets), you can see a small gap between the iPad and the lid. THAT is the space I'm referring to! I believe they did NOT make this Air 2 case any thinner, and that it is in fact a recycled, re-cut version of the 2013 Air case. I could be wrong, that's why I'm hoping that somebody still has both to compare.

So I just compared it to my wife's iPad mini and it's the same depth! I could only find the dimensions on Best Buys website and the depth of the mini(2013) is 0.58 inches vs iPad Air(2013) 0.6 inches. So is this is correct, then the new Air 2 case is a tad bit thinner than the 2013 Air, but still not thin enough. On the 2013 mini, the smart case lid lays flat across the surface of the screen, vs the Air 2, where the cover does not lay flat across the screen. There is indeed a tiny gap between cover and screen. Not a huge deal, but considering it being apple and the precision they always use, the Air 2 smart case should have been an exact fit and it's actually not.

On another note. Did anybody notice apple went back to a 10watt charger! Why? To save money maybe? I'd rather have my iPad charge faster personally!

You're pushing down on the lid. Let it fall naturally and don't apply any pressure. It's there! Also, like I already said, if you don't have an iPad Air or mini, how would you truly know! There IS a difference, though it's very little.

I gotta disagree. Theres CLEARY more of a lip o the new Air 2 case than the iPad mini! This proves my point that apple did not slim down the new Air 2 case accordingly to the new Air 2 specs. THAT is a problem and should have not happened! Why make all this fuzz about a thinner iPad, only to not also reflect it in the case that goes with it.

That's what I'm starting to figure out. It's a tiny by thinner only. Still, I wish they would have made it fit exactly like they did on the mini, cause they did a better job on that one. Why leave any gap at all! Thanks for posting this, since I do not have my old Air to compare too. I appreciate it.

I'm not p****d off or angry.... I'm simply stating a valid question! And regarding the apple stores. Often they don't know these things either, so that's why I figured I'd reach out to others who may still have both the old Air and the new one to compare too. But, I guess not many who has the Air 2, came from last years Air.

Also, I travel 5 month out of the year and I live on my iPhone and iPad, so my standards are a bit higher than most perhaps. But it's really not that big of a deal, I just personally feel they could have done better on the case, that's it.
