Oct 29, 2014 11:37 PM in response to walterfromviennaby walterfromvienna,I have to revoke my last statement. Also after exchanging my router from a Linksys E4500 to a Netgear Nighthawk X4 R7500 the problem still persists! though it takes a little longer after iPad Air 2 gets into the condition of no data traffic although Wifi shows connected. Last night it was about 6 hours of sleep until I could not wake up Wifi and I had to disable/enable Wifi until it worked again.
So to my conclusion it cannot be a router issue, used two different routers from two different vendors, and the iPad behaved the same, it must definitely be an IOS 8.1 or iPad hardware issue!

Oct 30, 2014 4:22 AM in response to escrge1843by as41,All,
I tried the escrge 1843 method (iPad Air 2 WiFi Connectivity Issues: RESOLVED) last night and it definitely made things a lot more stable but speed was affected. My usual Speedtest app gives me 50 Mbs Down but after setting the networks to 5ghz - A only and 2.4ghz to B/G the maximum I was able to achieve was 25 Down.
Even after sleep and wake for several hours two out of three (IPad Air 2 and 5S) devices remained connected but unfortunately my iPhone 6 Plus which was behaving better on the previous 5ghz setting lost connection this morning and I had to toggle Wi-Fi on/ off.
So in summary this method is the best temporary fix to date (especially for Linksys/Cisco routers) albeit not perfect for all IOS devices in the same household.
I'm definitely going to buy the new ASUS AC68 router which I think will solve the problem as I'm hearing good reports from numerous sources!

Oct 30, 2014 6:15 AM in response to as41by Rlin5741,WWireless g and wireless a are older, early 2000s standards that are limited to 54mbps max theoretical speed (I.e. No interference, device sitting right next to router). Real world speed is much slower. I am actually surprised you get 25 - I live in an apt building and am lucky to get 10 under a/g!

Oct 30, 2014 6:32 AM in response to walterfromviennaby Rlin5741,Someone reported the R7000 nighthawk router had issues? Perhaps it's a chipset issue, although in that case the R7000 is the outlier. Both the Apple Express and Asus A68u use a Broadcom chipset, while the linksys routers use Marvel, the ar7500 uses a brand new Quantenna chipset that appears to offer some new twist to wireless-ac (MU-MIMO, whatever that is). The R7000 does use the same chip as the A68u however....

Oct 30, 2014 7:01 AM in response to Rlin5741by MrMagoo14,As directed, we went to an Apple Store to have a diagnostic examination of our IPad Air 2's. When we explained the wifi connectivity problem, and referenced the others experiencing the same on this board, the technician simply indicated that our devices would be replaced. Of course, our particular models were not in stock and would have to be ordered, requiring another trip to that store, about 20 miles away, at a later date.
Recognizing the comments here that replacement devices fared no better, we felt that a router upgrade was our only remaining option. We purchased the Asus A68U for $200 at Best Buy. It was fairly easy to set up, and, by golly, it seems to be working like a champ. Speeds approaching 100 Mbps on 2.4, with no drops or connection issues to speak of so far, after hours of heavy use.
We needed the upgrade away, but it stinks that we had to had to spend more money just to get the Ipads to work.
