Nov 17, 2014 3:55 AM in response to ramsesjoseby NordicPrince,I was having the same issues, and I did replace the Air2. Just as predicted, the new one has the same problems.

Nov 17, 2014 3:44 AM in response to escrge1843by NordicPrince,After hours on the phone with Apple support, they told me to exchange my Air 2 for a new one (it was less than two weeks old). The new one is having the exact same issues, although it does seem to hold the connection a little longer. We all keep describing the problem as disconnecting after x amount of time, but maybe it's really after x amount of data is transmitted - similar to Internet Explorer issues on a PC when the temporaryI internet files cache fills up.
Both iPads also have the same problem with Airdrop - it won't turn on in contacts only mode.
What I don't understand is, if this is a bug with iOS 8.1 and the Air 2, why isn't every Air 2 purchaser having this problem? Why isn't everyone returning their Air 2's, and why isn't it all over the news like previous iOS issues?

Nov 17, 2014 3:54 AM in response to escrge1843by NordicPrince,I Had the same issue and replaced the iPad Air 2. The new one has the same problem. Both also have the same Airdrop problem - it will not open in "contacts only" mode, even when wifi is working. Does anyone think the two problems are related?

Nov 17, 2014 5:29 AM in response to NordicPrinceby tom_eastcoast,NordicPrince, what router are you using? Can you post your make/model pls.

Nov 17, 2014 11:06 AM in response to tom_eastcoastby NordicPrince,I believe it's a Linksys EA4500. I've had it a little over a year. I have iPhones (4S & 5S), an iPad Miin (Original), and iPads (original and 4th generation) all connected and all are working perfectly. The iPad Air 2 keeps dropping the wifi and when I try to use airdrop in contacts only mode, it always asks for my password and will not turn on. It seems to work in everybody mode. I have also experienced problens with keyboard shortcuts working.
The wifi issue is present even when setup as a new iPad. The airdrop issue is not present, but occurs after restoring a backup. I've tried restoring the back up from my iPad 4th generation, as well as my iPhone 5S. I've reset the router, and restored the ipad to factory using iTunes. Apple support ultimately suggested that I exchange it for a new one since I was still in my return period. I did so yesterday, and the replacement is experiencing identical issues.
Everyone that I've spoken with at Apple says that they haven't heard of anyone else with this issue, yet there are over 100 of us posting about it in this forum.

Nov 17, 2014 11:15 AM in response to NordicPrinceby Thatchcote,Exactly! About a hundred people on this forum are having problems, out of MILLIONS of iPad Air 2 sold. Most are NOT having trouble.
I think that many of the posters here are very knowledgeable people when it comes to routers, and they tweak their routers for best performance. The vast majority of iPad owners wouldn't know how to tweak a router anymore than they would know how to write code. We just hook them up and they work.
I also don't doubt that some older routers - Linksys in particular - don't play well with the new Apple wifi. Some people have replaced their routers and had success doing so.
This is NOT a huge problem with either the iPad's software or hardware. Apple would know about this as would the media, and if the media knew it would be all over the place. Most Googles of this problem bring one right back to this forum.

Nov 17, 2014 11:28 AM in response to Thatchcoteby fboss,Can you repro the issue, take logs, and show us some evidence that some routers are doing the wrong thing? if not, stop making assumptions. You just don't know if there is an issue in the iPad, or not. Some people have issues with some routers.
And you can't use the number of participants here as an indication of the percentage of the iPad users who have this issue. Lot of people don't read the forums.
Stop trying to convince us that buying a new router is the fix. Some of the new routers don't work either , like the R7000 (unless you flash a special firmware)

Nov 17, 2014 11:33 AM in response to fbossby Thatchcote,Several people have posted just what you asked for, which is very nice of them. Remember, this is a user-to-user forum, not a panel of experts. Our knowledge base varies from "I know how to turn it off and on" to "super techie" and all points in between. We share our OWN experiences, not those of a study done by professional group.
Yes, I make the assumption that most people are not having this problem as in the past when there were large problems, people were very quick to let the world know and the media covered it extensively, even with what turned out to be non-issues such as bending iPhones. People don't spend at least $500 on an iPad and if it doesn't work, just resignedly put it in a closet and forget it. They scream in outrage! And very few are screaming....

Nov 17, 2014 12:06 PM in response to Thatchcoteby maxima2012,Update :
i been trying many different router settings such as changing channels on both bands. Changing SSID on 5MHz band and so far no luck .
IPad Air 2 drops when it wants. I still have more combinations to try but really don't think any of this is going to help. Just so everyone reading this knows
i I have a Linksys E4200v2 with the latest firmware. Have iPad mini, two iPhone 6's ,several TV's that connect via wifi a new laptop. The only devise failing
iis the iPad 2 . Apple has been no help. I refuse to buy a new router. All the other devices mention were made to work with all wifi protocols. There should be
nno reason why the iPad 2 wwasn't made compatable. I only wish I could get a straight answer and help from Apple so we could enjoy the iPad 2 . I am planning to give this a couple of days more before I return it and get my money back.
Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad
I hope everyone here has been calling Apple !

Nov 17, 2014 12:16 PM in response to maxima2012by maxima2012,Just now saw Apple has released iOS 8.1.1 Don't know if this fixes our problem.

Nov 17, 2014 1:40 PM in response to maxima2012by DezM,Maxima, I wrote on Page 28 of this thread what did WORK for me. Changing SSID of 5GHz and connect to that. Unfortunately, it only worked on a new 801.11ac router. It didn't work on an "N" router, which is what you have.
Look at my reply on page 28

Nov 17, 2014 1:51 PM in response to Thatchcoteby DezM,Thatchcote, probably because "millions" are not using 8.01.11n routers. They may be using slower routers (a/b/g) or the new 801.11ac routers.
Don't minimize the need for a fix in the iOS 8 software. People who pay $700 for a 128GB iPad EXPECT it to work. Whether it's a 100 users or 2000 users, the problem is there and hopefully today's iOS 8.1.1 address the WiFi and Airplay issues people are having.

Nov 17, 2014 1:59 PM in response to maxima2012by Pinehurst Ken,Thanks for the heads-up on 8.1.1. Hopefully someone here is already installing it - I'm still at work and will try it tonight. I know that a few of the folks on this conversation have been working with Apple engineers to try resolving the issue but I've not yet seen any positive updates from these escalated service tickets that indicate that the problem has been identified. I'm guessing that 8.1.1 will not fix the issue...maybe need to wait for 8.1.2 or 8.2. I hope I'm wrong...

Nov 17, 2014 2:16 PM in response to Pinehurst Kenby curmudgeon1938,iOS 8.1.1 appears to have solved the Angry Birds slow down for me.
I cannot speak to the disconnect problem since I have not experienced it.
