Dec 26, 2014 9:57 AM in response to escrge1843by TeknikosUSA,Change the name of your new iPad. If you restored from a backup of an older iPad it will give it the same name. When I looked in my routers device list I only saw 1 entry even though both my iPads were connected. After name change I removed my new iPad from the network "Forget this Device" restrated my router and connected my new iPad. Now there are 2 separate devices listed and haven't had a problem since. Hope it helps.

Dec 28, 2014 9:20 AM in response to TeknikosUSAby icrapair2,I have had WIFI disconnect issue ever since I have the Ipad Air 2. My Iphone 6 and friend's Iphone 6 also have the same issue with my router when attached to router. My router is DLink 655 Dir. Older Iphone and Ipad worked just fine for years. I am running the latest patch in Ipad Air 2 - 8.1.2. Every time, I turned on the Ipad Air 2 WIFI, it reboots my WIFI router in the matter of 30 - 60 minutes. Sometimes, immediately. Clearly, this is Apple latest OS issues and not my router. Other people have reported the same problem with other brands and new routers too.
I have tried the following and nothing fixed it.
1 - restore or reset to factory settings.
2 - forget the network and start over.
3 - change DNS to 8.8.8.8
4 - using static IP
5 - Have the IPad configured to my Hawking Repeater and it killed it too.
6 - disabled Privacy
7 - changed my router to b/g/n or b/n or n/g and all failed.
8 - assigned dedicated IP to the Ipad Air 2.
I can't believed it, the WIFI issues have been going on for a while and Apple has not gotten it fixed it. One more month, I am returning the Ipad Air 2 and Iphone 6 (although it works with my data plan) to the store and getting something else. The new Apple product is waste of my time. I do not see a reason why should I go out and buy new routers to test if the Ipad Air 2 is compatible. I am not Apple tester. I have 30+ devices hooked up to it and working fine. So many securities have been set up in the router. I thought Apple products suppose to just work??
The problem is not only the Ipad Air 2 disconnected from the WIFI router but it actually killed it. All my other devices also disconnected as well while the router is rebooting. Nice job Apple!

Dec 29, 2014 4:52 AM in response to Pabsi9by Tanraell,I have had the same issues as everyone on this thread. All my other i-devices (iPhone 6s, iPad gen 2 and 3) and 2 MacBook Pro's work fine on my home wifi network. New IPad Air 2 constantly freezes while streaming (various apps like WatchESPN or NBC Live Sports, YouTube etc) or randomly doesn't seem to connect to the network. Same issue regardless of 2.4 or 5Ghz bands used. Tried every combo of N-only, G-only or AC-onlysettings to no avail. Tried all the fixes contained in this thread. My router model is LInksys EA6900 AC-1900. Also had the iPad itself replaced by Apple (no change unsurprisingly). Tried on iOS 8.1.1 and 8.1.2 - no difference.
Turning on WMM was the fix that worked for me. I reset my other settings to "normal" between testings to avoid it being a weird combination of "fixes" that worked.. I shouldn't have to mess with my router settings to get this to work frankly but at least it now functions. Thought I'd share what worked for me and thank you guys for the idea.
Cheers,

Get a new router that works. You ppl who buy cheapo routers are the ones having problems.

Dec 29, 2014 7:06 AM in response to tom_eastcoastby NighthawkR7000,Yes must be those "cheapo routers" like Linksys (owned by the network noname "Cisco", I wonder who that is), also Netgear, TP-Link....
They all are just making crap routers, all of them, just junk they are selling...
My Netgear Nighthawk R7000 = outdated, old junk, the Netgear stock firmware, Tomato firmware, DD-WRT firmware, it's all trash software
TP-Link Archer C7 = more old trash
as is the Linksys EA6900 Tanraell has
Also the Broadcom chip inside the R7000 is trash as well as the Qualcomm inside the Archer C7.
And now we're all happy because the iPad Air 2 with iOS 8 has come out to show just what junk all those routers and chips are and that the only REAL router is an Apple router.
YES I AM SURE THAT MUST BE IT!

Dec 29, 2014 7:40 AM in response to NighthawkR7000by tom_eastcoast,YES I AM SURE THAT MUST BE IT!
Well ok then let's think of this reasonably for a moment shall we,
We all know that all the apple iPad Air 2's are manufactured the same, yet we also know that
some who have Air 2's have problems with wifi and some do not have any problems at all. (like my wife's Air 2).
So, what is the difference between those having problems and those who do not? Since all the Air 2's are created equal.
It's the router.
So that is what BE IT!

Dec 29, 2014 8:08 AM in response to tom_eastcoastby NighthawkR7000,You are funny and I am not even sure you are serious or whether this is some advanced art of sarcasm.
Surely you don't think it's even possible that Apple is at fault here do you? It's rather that several different brands of router manufacturers are at fault but it couldn't be that the almighty Apple has just screwed up WiFi in iOS8?
So if you have numerous reports of numerous brands of router manufacturers, not some no names, but among the biggest brands - and Netgear and Linksys certainly are among those - and at the same time pretty much all other devices are working fine with these routers, including older iOS devices, and when at the same time issues on Apple's side are well documented, then your conclusion is "hey sure, it just MUST be the routers, it just can't be an error on the side of Apple".
btw I don't know what your defintion of "cheapo" is but Tanraell's router costs EUR 150+ in Europe, the R7000 is also well above EUR 100 and very popular.
Personally I'd rather think that:
* Many people with older routers are not affected because they have routers that can't do AC yet and actually it mainly seems to affect newer routers that are AC capable. My personal guess is that the Air 2 AC MIMO is especially fragile the way WiFi has been implemented in iOS8.
* Many people don't even notice while surfing and don't stream too much, might think it's rather their internet connection that is acting up instead of being an WiFi issue. I certainly thought so myself in the beginning.
* Some people apparently have routers that for some reason are fully compatible with the way Apple implemented WiFi in iOS8, apparently Apple and Asus routers, but I haven't heard of any others that don't have issues with their AC router.
* And then there is the rest with a non Apple/Asus AC router who does stream things and who started to notice that there are issues, namely that you can't stream anything for more than 2 minutes before the stream hangs, and some of those are posting here.

That's what our wifi router is, an Asus, and our iPad Air 2 works great with it. So how is it that our iPad Air 2 works great and others do not?
It's the router, so my suggestion is get an Asus router and enjoy life. I personally think this is a no brainer

Dec 30, 2014 11:14 AM in response to escrge1843by podstarter,I am experiencing the same issue. iPad Air 2 64GB WiFi only on iOS 8.1.2, dropping WiFi during use, almost every time I use the device. Nothing new to add to the discussion, just hoping another voice in the mix will spur Apple to add a touch more urgency to this issue.
To me this is an iPad specific issue. There are many devices in this house connecting to the same router, including iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air and Apple TV. None of these other Apple devices are experiencing the same or similar issues. Both the iPhones are running 8.1.2 also.

Jan 1, 2015 4:29 AM in response to NighthawkR7000by Cookster46,We have 3 routers in the house ; 1) Link sys WRT54G2 in operation, 2) Link Sys EA3500 (not used) and 3) AIRPORT Time Capsule (still in the box from Santa) We also have various types of computers;
Laptops ,
iphones (4S, and 5's),
One MAC laptop (running the latest OS s/w version from Apple),
One Windows PC with Windows 7,
and Two IPADS, one running SW Version 7.1.1 and the latest addition and IPAD Air 2 which is running SW version 8.1
My hone network worked fine using the WRT54G including the new IPAD AIR 2 I bought my wife for Christmas. However I have some dead spots in the house that I was hoping the EA3500 would cover it better and I wanted to try and take advantage of the 5Ghz so I changed out the WRT54G after Christmas and installed the EA3500. Almost immediately the new IPAD AIR2 running 8.1 starting giving me WIFI grief around the house by continuously disconnecting, and needing to be reset.
My older IPAD (still running 7.1.1 ) was rock solid and we experienced no instances of WIFI disconnects etc. I went back to the WRT54G2 this morning and harmony is restored in the house and everyone is happy. I am debating what to do the the Time Capsule now. I may take it back and wait until either Link Sys or Apple fess up to fixing the problem but for now I am staying with the old router.
Happy New Year!

You can fix your wifi grief by dumping that Linksys router, I don't like Linksys and never did,
If you read thru this thread, you will see that every single person who has a Linksys router has wifi problems with Air 2

Jan 1, 2015 6:14 AM in response to as41by Michael Albert4,I have the same issue with ALL my iOS 8 devices. Apple has had me reset and reconfigure and nothing has worked. My iOS 5-based original iPad is crushing every iOS 8 device in my house.

Jan 1, 2015 6:16 AM in response to escrge1843by pawkier,Same issue with WiFi speed on my iPad Air 2, already tried all options and no real effects.... At same time my iPhone 6 WiFi is fine.
what I just noticed is that if I stand just next to WiFi router both devices give good speed test result. If I go away from router even 5 steps iPad WiFi get slow depending on distance while iPhone is fine.
can someone check it.

Jan 2, 2015 12:13 PM in response to escrge1843by youdvdk,Hey everyone. I had the same problem and I might have figured it out for a lot of people last night. What you need to do is go to your wifi in settings and click on the little icon on the right of your network. After that make sure your DNS is the same as your router IP address. That should work.
Hope this helps.
