Q: Not Happy, Yosemite killing my new iMac

I have a three month old 21" iMac with 1Gb and 8Gb DDR memory.

I updated to Yosemite several days ago and it's dreadful. Everything I do I get a spinning beachball

I've given it a few days to settle down but doing anything on it is frustrating.  I've bought this for my business (with Parallels & 8.1) and it's sucking the life out of me.

I'm not too technical but I've found the activity monitor and it shows that pretty much all of the RAM is being used.

Surely 8Gb of ram is not enough these days?  After spending £1,100 on a computer there's no way I'm buying more RAM....

Can anyone suggest what is killing my machine?

Thank you in advance

I suggest that you uninstall Rapport. It is only good for causing problems on a Mac.

    Geordie,

Please try and create a new user account.

    1) Go to System Preferences and hit User & Groups

    2) Hit the Lock to make changes and enter your password

    3) Click the + sign to create a new account - in the 'new account' pop-up choose 'Administrator'

    4) Enter user name etc.

    5) Log out of your current user

    6) Log in to new account

Before doing anything... open Safari and browse a bit, then perhaps a few other apps and take notice whether the Mac performs better.

If it does, then perhaps something in your old user folder is causing havoc.

if none of the tricks mentioned here or in the other posts are working. And you tried them all. Then I would personally do a clean install...

Backup your drive and then wipe it.

    Then install Yosemite.

I would advise against using migration. Never gave me anything but trouble.

Once you have done that, make sure that is runs (Safari, Mail etc) before you start installing new software.

Then begin with the ones you know should work (Official Compatible). One By One. Run them and make sure that the Mac keeps performing.

If @ any point the Mac begins acting up, you have found the culprit. Then go from there...

"I hope Apple bring out an update soon!"

It has been my experience that upgrade the operating system with the hope of fixing a problem usually only makes the problem worst. A far better solution is fix the problem first and them upgrade.

A friend of mine liked to say that doing an upgrade of the operating system is a bit like doing brain surgery on yourself. If you do an upgrade on a computer with problems that is like doing brain surgery on yourself when you are drunk.

No. It is a scam and will remove more than junk as is often highlighted in these forums. It has been known to render some user's OS X inoperable. Clean up programs are not required. Steer clear of this program and others like it such as MacKeeper.
