Mail app keeps crashing after Yosemite update

I just bought a new MB Pro a couple of months ago. Hardly any apps installed.

After the upgrade to Yosemite the mail app keeps crashing when I launch it. I have read a lot of other topics but I can't find a solution.

Anybody out there who can help me? Or should I just wait on an update for this?

Regards

ok so I have solved my problem.

The issue is with the user Library. I opened a new user and ran my exchange mail on mail. NO problem!

so the make sure, I backed up everything ( most of my work is on dropbox anyway ) and then went about going through the process of formatted my Mac HD drive, doing all the resets and then a fresh install of Yosemite as a new machine.

I ran exchange mail for ½ a day as a test. ran perfectly. everything on the machine is so fast, and my machine is 5 yrs old. I have now loaded everything back, still no problems, and then 10.10.1 came out. Updated that and still everything is working fine.

so the problem was in user library, prob something corrupted, wasn't hardware thankfully, but to look and find that part of the library that was a the problem would of taken ages.

so if you have a day, start again, with your apple ID everything gets back to how you had it.

Just to be clear:

1. After you open mail and it asks you to add a new account, you need to hit "cancel" ... after which Mail automatically closes. (That's what you mean by "close mail," correct?)

2. When you go to your trash and "right click on the accounts.plist file and select put back," it asks you to keep two copies or replace the one now in the folder with the one that you've trashed. You're instructions are "put back" and to choose "replace," correct?

I have the same problem, it crashes when I read some emails, crashes when I respond to others. In each case I fill out the crash report and send it to apple. This has been going on for months now and I don't see any updates to the app or responses from apple. I give up and have switched to Thunderbird for Mac OSX. Thunderbird is free, integrates nicely into Yosemite, is as functional as the Mail app and most importantly doesn't crash.

I have the same issue - and also Notes constantly crashes. Disabling gmail works for Mail, but not Notes. At this point, I've simply switched to Outlook - I can't keep wasting time with various work-arounds that don't seem to solve the problem. Apple needs to issue a fix for all these app crashes. Until then, I'm using other apps. Fortunately, I only updated my laptop to try out Yosemite. Not quite ready for prime time.
