The last printer driver that Canon created for this model was for OS X 10.7. Here is a link to that driver. You may be able to install this old driver on 10.10, however its lack of a digital signature will stop it from being installed by default. To install it you will have to right-click on the installer and select Open from the pop-up menu that appears. Then you will get the option to install the driver. Once the installation has completed see if you can create the printer.
If you cannot install this old driver or manage to print with it installed, then you may need to look at installing an alternate driver. One such driver is called Gutenprint. Here is a link to the project page. Try installing the latest version 5.2.10 (you may need to do the same process above to install it). With it installed you can create a printer using the Gutenprint - Canon MP160 series driver.
LOLLY> I had the same problem, I just installed the latest driver from the website and mine work too. I currently have a MacBook Pro with Yosemite.

Hello please can you help me , I need to install my printer driver Canon Pixma MP160 , it is urgent, thank you very much
Did you download the driver that is linked to above? If you did, are you saying that you are not able to add the printer? If yes, then it could be an issue with the USB printer cable, so try another and even try a different USB port on the Mac.
Thanks a lot for this!
@PAHU Thanks for the Gutenprint driver link. That worked a treat and our Canon MP140 is now back up and running 🙂
OK, some of the driver options are no longer available, but they were rarely used anyway.
So if your printer is no longer listed at Apple's list of preinstalled/available drivers for download but IS listed in printers supported by Gutenprint driver, then download it and give it a try.
Note: After installing Gutenprint, we had to turn printer off, unplug usb, reconnect and power on before it was recognised again. And then we were prompted o repair permissions by an alert in the print queue window. Took about 30 secs to repair permissions and then it started printing.
See my reply above
Just tried this http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
it works perfectly!! 🙂 Thank you so much PAHU!!
