Q: DVD Drive doesn't work since Yosemite

Last week I updated my iMac 21,5" Mid 2011 to Yosemite. Sice the Clean Install my DVD Drive won't mount a DVD. The eject Button works, but my iMac does not show any DVD.

I want to install my iLife Apps from my CD, because I'm running my website with iWeb. I need it, if I can't install it with my DVD, where can I download it?

Thank you.

    Hi, have you checked...

Finder>Preferences> General & Sidebar to see what is checked to Show?

Yes, "CDs, DVDs and iPods" is checked.

Hmmm, it works on my Mid 2007/24" in 10.10!

Does the drive show in System Report?

Or in Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)?

Might try this, not sure the locations are the same in 10.10, (not available here at this time... & hoping to never have to boot into it again), but...

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.

Then move these files to the Desktop...

    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist

    Reboot & test.

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

Oh, you'll have to redo Finder Prefs again after doing this.

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).

Go to your OS Help Menu.  In the search field type dvd

Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to  your issue.

You can also do the same in Disk Utility.  Open same up.

At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.

This will bring up the Help Menu.

Okay, I think I have solved the problem. I don't know why, but it is working now.

I just opened the Disk Utility-Tool, clicked on the DVD Drive and insert my Applications Install Disc and it runs without a problem. I'm just installing iWEB.

    Thank you for helping.
