Canon i70

Hello,

I haven't used this printer in a few months, and now I'm trying to get it to work with the same laptop that I've used it with before... and no luck.

Basically, the driver does not appear in the driver list. There are a lot of GIMP drivers, but not the correct i70 driver.

I downloaded and installed the latest driver from Canon, rebooted, etc. but it didn't change -- still no driver in the Printer Setup Utility.

So, how can I get the printer setup utility to 'see' the driver?

Thanks,

Tor

Hello Tor,

Looking at the Canon Au web site, there doesn't appear to be a new version of i70 driver that supports Intel Mac's. What you could try is going to Applications > Utilities and do a Get Info on the Printer Setup Utility. Enable the setting "Open using Rosetta" and close the Get Info window. Now open the Printer Setup Utility and click Add and Default Browser. The i70 should be shown as a USB device. Click on it and ensure the Print Using tab shows Canon IJ Printer.

If the Print Using menu fails to automatically load. then something has gone wrong with the v4.15 driver installation and we need to remove it (note that v4.15 is included with Tiger so there is no need to use the driver from the Canon web site.) From the Printer Setup Utility, click on the title menu and select Reset Printing System. Then go to Mac HD (or whatever you called it) > Library > Receipts and delete the downloaded installer, probably called Canon i70 415.pkg. Restart the Mac and then open Disk Utility. Select the Tiger volume and click Repair Permissions. Close Disk Utility when completed and shutdown the Mac. Turn off the power to the i70 and unplug the USB cable. Turn the MacBook back on again and log in (if you have to). Give the Mac a miinute to ensure everything that needs to start has done so and then connect the i70 USB. Finally turn the i70 power on and go to the Printer Setup Utility. Click Add > Default Browser > select the i70 and cross your fingers. If the Print Using menu still doens't automatically fill then threaten the i70 with words of replacement!!! Then post back here and we'll have another go at getting it working...

Regards,

Paul
