My iTunes won't burn CDs anymore

What happens is: The program prepares to burn the CD. It takes its time with the first track but then rockets through the other tracks at hyper speed. It finishes up and says it's done. It shows a tracklist while it's still in the drive, but when I attempt to play the CD on another player, it only registers one track on the disc and no sound comes out.

-I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling.
-I've tried repairing.
-I've tried getting the iTunes tech support to help me, all to no avail.
-It's NOT the CDs. They work perfectly well with Windows Media Player and when burning data.

-I tried creating a whole new playlist to burn, thinking that maybe there was just something glitchy about the particular one that kept failing. Not only were the initial results the same, (took its time with the first track and jammed through the rest) but when reading the new, incorrectly burned, CD (without having taken in out of the CD drive) the tracklist iTunes read from it was completely off. It listed songs on the CD that weren't in the tracklist it supposedly burned from.

I'm tired of wasting blank CDs and I don't want to buy any new music downloads if I can't burn them and take them with me. Any suggestions?

Try to downgrade to version 6...at least 6 worked properly.

You may be right. If I remember correctly, things
didn't go wrong until the "upgrade" before last.

Sounds like you had the same issue under iTunes 6.0.5 then, so going back to iTunes 6.0.5 won't resolve the issue.

With a blank CD in the drive, click on the Help Menu, and then Run Diagnostics.

Choose the CD/DVD Diagnostics and post the results here. I will look at them, and will respond. However, time being what it is, I may not be able to respond until tomorrow.

Thanks, Nathan. I understand about time constraints. I can wait. 🙂

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

I installed iTunes 7, and after that, any attempts to write CD's (didn't try DVD's) on my Plextor 755SA resulted in the drive getting to the Lead In and freezing, to the point where I had to reboot the machine to rerun the writing application. Even happened when simulating writing to the disk.

I disabled the ipod service in the Services control panel applet, made sure the ituneshelper.exe and the ipodservice.exe were not running, and lo and behold, everything started working again.

Posting this in the hope it stops someone else from tearing all their hair out over an evening.
