iPhone 6 Messages not sorted

What troubleshooting steps have you taken? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the apple appears?

Wow, you bring out the heavy guns first! I always start with a reset.

Does this keep happening with new messages if you delete all the messages that are out of order?

I seem to recall reading a few threads in which people noted that, if they deleted a single message from a thread, the time stamp for that message got retained somehow and affected the sort order. Could that be what you're seeing?

I really don't know. Again, there does seem to be an issue for some people with deleting individual messages. I haven't seen any issues personally and I've got messages threads on my 5S that started back when I had an iPhone 4. Sorry. That's all I've got.

Deleting an individual message in a thread will not change how the thread is sorted. It will still sort by whatever time the last message was received, even if that message was deleted.

However, if the most recent message in a thread is deleted the entire thread moves to its proper chronological place based on the remaining most recent message. Perhaps this is the problem that is being identified?

People do seem to be complaining that, even if they delete a message, the thread sorts as if it had never been deleted. As I rarely delete anything but whole threads, I've never noticed. Will try to do the experiment today.

Edit: Just deleted all the messages from a thread from 4/3. Most recent messages before that are from 3/24. Thread remains sorted at 4/3, not 3/24.

Seems like a fairly minor issue to me. I don't find that having my messages sorted that precisely is exactly mission critical. It would certainly not be worth me losing 3 years of messages (though mine are all archived as PDFs).
