I agree if it were the processor there would be a lot of problems everywhere. Such as the screen not reacting to the touch, flickering screen, blank screens, apps freezing... Oh wait,,, that sounds like a lot of the problems I have read in here. Hmmm. Someone mentioned 5 watts would not cause an arcing sound and they are right it is the amps that would. See it takes just 1 amp to stop a persons heart. The processor and RAM use maybe 5 watts if they can prove that but it would take at least .05-1 amps to move that 5 watts. Someone said, record and put on you tube the amp discharge. I have a better and much easier example. Take your shoes off and shuffle your feet as you shuffle across five feet of carpet and then touch a light switch or door knob. That is a great example of amps and what less then 1 amp would do. Point is shaking a device and that device not making a popping sound is as primitive as saying a monkey shaking a stick is a sign of intelligence.
Has anyone heard of Remote Residual Electric Discharge? If not I will explain, I turn off all the electricity going into my house and there is no more power feeding into my residence. I open an electrical outlet to replace it and as I place my screw driver to the hot lead I get a fairly large zap of electricity (amps). That is remote residual electric discharge. There is no power feeding into the house but there is still a small amount of electricity still coursing through the house. I bring this up because this is also a case of an improperly grounded house or other electric issues I will not get into. The same with the iPad Air 2. There is something wrong and the flickering screens and popping noise are all bad signs.
It is also very common with robotic arms used in car manufacturing plants. I have watched quite a few rookie robotic engineers power down a malfunctioning robot and walk out there and not placing a ground wire on the robot so it will discharge the residual electricity. It is funny but it hurts and it could leave a nice burn on their hand. The same with these iPads yes they may or may not use just 5 watts but it takes amps to move that 5 watts and it is amps that zap you or your device and it makes an arcing pop noise.
Due to the fact that it is an amp discharge the speakers may or may not pick it up because of how speakers work to begin with. It just depends on the location of the arc as well. In addition regarding the manipulating the iPad to make the sound also does not mean it is software. To me that says that it is a problem with the screen. Most of these real comments are reporting problems with the screen, and freezing during playing graphic demanding games like Vain Glory, that tells me that there may be a problem with the RAM and the 64 bit architecture Processor the new A8X. I also believe the A8X motion processor is the culprit as well. That is why shaking it may or may not cause the popping noise. Finally, the popping noise is very random unless you are USING your SCREEN. After reading a lot of these posts I noticed that, that is the only common factor other than the noise. Apple used a new screen technology and this is the first time they upgraded to two GB of RAM that is a lot of amps moving memory around in that little space. Did anyone question why didn't Apple really go out and mention the upgrade to their RAM? In fact I asked 12 Apple employees how much RAM was in the new iPad and not one knew or they acted as if they did not know. Hmmm.... should I post a video on YouTube to prove Apple is denying there is a problem. Sorry proof is in the pudding.
So if you just bought an iPad Air 2 and it makes any kind of popping noise please return it and get your money back. It is too close to Christmas to mess it up with a flawed design and really glitchy software. It happens and Apple is never known to openly admit problems. They have a better history at bringing out the same device the following year that is better but they call it something else like iPhone 5s or iPhone 4s. iPad mini then six months later call it iPad Mini with Retina Display. The processors, RAM and batteries in all those items were changed and the product worked right or as it should. One last fact, the NEW iPad Mini 3 did not get the new processor or RAM upgrade and those units are not popping... So if you are waiting for a "SoftWare" update you will be waiting far beyond your return policy. Good luck everyone and enjoy the holidays and I hope this has helped anyone looking for a correction to the Issue. One last note: IF IT POPS TAKE IT BACK FOR A REFUND!!!
