iPad air 2 pop noise

My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

David, I do believe it is hardware. Or better said the combination of hardware and software in this case.

I'm absolutely positive the pops in my Air 2 come from the speakers and I think I can proof it.

I've posted this in this thread already, because it randomly produces the same loud popping noise on my device when doing the following:

1. Play a song in the Music app.

2. Open Settings/Music/Equalizer.

3. Switch between "Late Night" and "Latin" presets quickly while the song is playing. It's important to use the "Late Night" preset here.

You don't even have to play the audio file at high volume, the pop is much louder than the song itself.

I get more pops that way as with the Spotlight/keyboard "method".

But if I set the volume to zero and do the same the pops are gone until I raise the volume again.

That's the reason why I believe the pop comes from the speakers.

It would be interesting if the people who think they received a flawless device could try this out. If yours doesn't pop while switching the presets for a while, that would be interesting news.

About the static electricity in general. How shall a static charge build up in a device with a metal body which you are grounding every time you touch it?

Hey psikofunkster,

Just trying to help with your complaint that Apple in Mexico won't help you. Sorry I wasted my time ;-).

You are calling Apple a rip off company not me....The Ipad Air 2 and IOS8 are a top-notch combination except for this issue. If i had hated Apple that much i wouldn't have bought an ipad air 2 in the first place, i'm not that fool.

I didn't mean it that way, but understand my wording was a little misleading when I read it back. I meant the type of companies these shows typically deal with, and that they might help you with your situation if they exist down there. Often, when a company gets a call from these shows, they find a way to become very helpful ;-).

I only needed to go from rock (the preset i currently use) to late night and voilá it popped.

I'm pretty pretty sure they are not gonna exchange my ipad here only for that issue....😟 I could fight but it's gonna be pretty tiresome i'm afraid.

I'm not an engineer but i believe if this were a software issue (ios8) everybody would have it but they don't. Now i can make that video...

You are indeed a lucky fellow. No scratches on your iPhone 6 and no popping sound on your iPad Air 2. Mine had gone quite but the Air 2 is popping again. Skype seems to cause it quite a bit, I do believe that its prevalent in most Air 2's but depends maybe on your apps. All I know is I'm very disappointed and its hard to exchange a unit that does it so irregularly, but it does seem more often than not after a 100% charge on my iPad Air 2. Mines coming from the speakers because if I hold my hand over the speakers (in its case) the pop is more muffled than if I hold it with the speakers unobstructed

I had less in the old days but maybe the sheer numbers of production units is a symptom of the times, my 3Gs my 4 and 4S were unblemished and apart from the antenna issues with the 4 is was a good phone. I had issues with chips in the 5 bezel, the 5s was fine, my gf's six is scratched quite badly now, her 5c was perfect and my iPad Air 2 pops, my other iPad was fine (iPad 4)

i had the popping in my Air 2 which I bought December 13th. Called Apple Care the following Friday, described the issue, referred him to this thread and played the YouTube video of someone's Air 2popping over the phone. Of course, I couldn't recreate it with mine while I had him on the phone. He talked to his manager and came back and said I should take it in and they would probably replace it. He said to refer them to this discussion if I couldn't recreate the sound in the store. He then made me an appointment with the genius bar. Once there the representative basically said, nope, if you can't recreate it, we can't replace it. She said that these discussions were just a bunch of people talking and Apple hasn't recognized this as a problem. I honestly don't know if my iPad made the noise in the store because it was so loud and crowded. Luckily, I had had the iPad less then a week, so I said "well then I would like to return this iPad and then buy a new one." Which is what I did and this new one doesn't pop, so it seems to me that the problem is hardware.

i do think they may have tricked me into coming in, because I ended up buying a 6 plus and extended Apple care 🙂 I really had no intention of buying the 6 plus yet, but something hit me when I heard someone say they had 128gb in stock, and I said give me one of those too.
