iPad air 2 pop noise

My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

Just to clarify things.

I get different kinds of popping noises if I play with the equalizer presets. The key seems to be the Late Night preset, because according to the manual, this preset turns on dynamic compression of the audio signal. The "normal" pop is not really loud and you get it easily in many apps. For instance, if you do something in Garage Band and send the app into background while there is still audio output. Then there's some kind of pop/click/crackle sound when the audio cuts off and you get it with the equalizer presets as well. The big difference on my iPad is, that i too get this extremely loud pop noise when switching the presets. Not always, but quite often and that's the same quality of noise I'm getting randomly while using my iPad.

There's nothing to worry about if you get only these little cracks, clicks whatever.

I've had the snapping issue for a while and there's a new plot twist of late... my iPad gradually looses its WiFi connection. Some times it fixes itself, other times I cycle the power and then it works. I visited my local Genius and she said t reset and reload from scratch.

So keep an eye out for mysterious time outs while browsing.

I'm sending this message via my cell connection, which seems to work.

My week old iPad Air 2 (64 gig, wifi) does the snap/pop noise. It is tied to the audio circuit and and takes place, inconsistently, when alert tones activate (such as new mail, or sent mail) or starting a YouTube video. I say inconsistently in one sense that it does not happen every time, BUT it is consistent that it makes the loud snap/pop when the audio circuit is engaged, apparently after the iPad is sitting idle for a while. Also, keyboard click sounds can make it happen in a web browser as well.

5 days, then it just randomly appeared, it's went away again now but now whenever i click the microphone button it presses the space bar button, also when it was popping it was disrupting the wifi, mainly disconnected it.. surely it's hardware and not software, going to take it back again tomorrow and get another one, will keep you updated

whats everyones numbers on the boxes, i know both of mine have ended with a /A maybe there is a /B.. etc

I've had the iPad Air 2 wifi 128g model since early November. Since then I've also had the popping issue. Seems to happen when switching between apps especially audio related apps, though not exclusively. Sometimes it happens right at device startup. The popping issue usually precludes an even more annoying issue.. having absolutely no sound at all. The only fix I've found is to turn off the device and turn it back on. Or do a hard reset. But even then on a few occasions I've had it make the loud pop followed by a complete loss of all sound in any app immediately after startup or reset. All this plus some touch sensitivity issues and safari issues. I decided to try updating to 8.1.2 hoping maybe that would solve some problems. Immediately after startup the loud pop was still present and actually seemed louder than is typical. I read somewhere that reset all setting might help with touchscreen problems so I tried that too but it didn't really seem to do much of anything at all. In fact most of my settings remained as they were before the reset which I find extra strange. Well there's my two cents.

It sounds like you have some issues going on, more than just some random pops. Why haven't you take your device to Apple?

When I get a device I like to hold on to the original if possible. Swapping them out just seems wasteful and impersonal. Once its mine I like it to stay mine. That and most of my visits to the "Genius Bar" have resulted in me leaving there muttering something under my breath about how they should change their name. But I probably will have to take it back to Apple seeing as the update and reset all just occurred this morning.

I understand the bond. But given what you described, you might be better served bonding with a replacement iPad!
