iPad air 2 pop noise

My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

The pop/snap is very similar to the noise heard when switching amplifier inputs without muting the power amp first. The large value electrolytic capacitors used to block DC from the audio path discharge rapidly causing the loud "pop".

I'm still hoping that a software fix is posbile.

Why it is occurring when it does, i.e. Not necessarily when switching audio sources is a bit of a worry though.

I'm so glad i found this thread. earlier today i called apple for an exchange...before i found others are having this issue!

having my new air 2 since october 27...64g..wifi.. same thing happening. sporadic..not replicable....BUT...on mine it is most definitely NOT coming from the speakers. only 'pop' 4 times...first 2 not sure where exactly...next one was from near upper right corner...and once today from left hand side towards the top. i even felt the vibration on that one. it is not happening when listening to anything..just while surfing around. seems to happen mostly when (and where) touching the screen. except the first time i heard it was after i turned it off and set it down on sofa. very strange!

after reading all this and only having the pops 4 times in two weeks makes me wonder....i sure don't want to get one that is worse!

I Ended up returning mine today. Called Apple twice about it send in an email and also went on the developer forums and no one has a clue what's going on. I'm sure Apple will find a fix and make it right sometime. But for now I'm going to wait it out. For those who want to do an exchange it does not seem to help so if you find a good one with no other defects I'd stick it out. I went through two that do it and I've read of others going though three with all the same poping noise. I'm going to keep following this thread to see how it works out and I hope you get a fix.

yes the more i read this is definitely not just a 'few' with the issue. odd that no one has acknowledged it yet... i really don't want to exchange and be worse off! and this one seems to be great in all other regards. so i suppose you're right i should hang on...i don't see a reason why the warranty or applecare wouldn't cover me if it ends up causing big problems. thanks for the reply and good luck on your end too 🙂

Another one here. I heard the noise a couple of times the first two days, then nothing for two weeks, today twice. I think there is little point getting a replacement now as it is unlikely Apple has fixed the issue, they are probably just acknowleding it, they need to find a fix, test it and send to production, we are talking about weeks. I am lucky as I bought it in a store that has 90 days return policy, so can wait for a softaware update if it is a software problem, otherwise i ll get a refund towards the end of the 90 days period to make sure the fixes are there.

I contacted Apple support but they were useless, as usual they assume you are dumb, they told me it is a sound setting problem (they told me to turn off keyboard clicks...). Clueless.

which sort of confirms my thought that it isn't coming from the speakers. thanks for posting it's an exchanged pad. helps me confirm i should wait until they iron out this situation before going for exchng.

went a few days without hearing a pop. later this evening it did it again..this time near lower right corner. (prior pop few days ago was upper left side)

trying to discover a pattern...and document when. it seems to happen shortly after i've charged it to 100%...within a few minutes after unplugging from charger... don't know if it's a coincidence that i'm in safari at the time.

***anyone else getting any type of pattern?***
