Nov 1, 2014 10:16 PM in response to Garth1988by AVCVgames,I too am having this loud pop intermittentl. Has anyone determined how to reproduce this? Should it go back to Apple?

Nov 2, 2014 12:15 PM in response to AVCVgamesby juahan,I'm experiencing this as well, I haven't been able to find any way to reproduce it, seems to happen randomly. Very hard to say, if it is hardware or software. It also doesn't seem to be consistent with any sound that would be coming at the same time, for example using the onscreen keyboard. In a way it sounds like static charge release through the speaker, but that wouldn't make much any sense.

Nov 2, 2014 3:02 PM in response to juahanby Rocky9143,How do I get this fixed if I bought it from Apple.com and have it engraved?
-
Nov 2, 2014 3:15 PM in response to Garth1988by Tom70,Same problem. Infrequent loud pop heard from the speaker, usually triggered by a touch to a control or text box. Can't reproduce the problem consistently. Seems to happen once or twice a day.
I have arranged for a return with the Apple Store. Will report back if the new one is symptom free.

Nov 2, 2014 4:19 PM in response to Garth1988by pantherkent,I have myself noticed this same problem everyone else has posted about. It's very random, one-and-done, and can't be reproduced. I probably hear it every 3-4 days but even that varies. Seems to mostly happen (that I've notced) when using the new Home Touch ID button. Mine is a 64GB WiFi model. It probably was one of the first to come out of the factory as it was available for sale at one of my local Apple stories Wednesday, two days before the "official" on sale date.
I have not noticed any other glitches and my iPad operates normally otherwise. This is my fifth iPad (never bought the original 2) and have NEVER had an issue with any of them. If the pop becomes more persistent then I might look for a replacement but I'm inclined to keep this one for now. I have the original 1-year warranty. If it goes in 3 or 6 months, my new one will have a years warranty from that date.

Nov 2, 2014 4:51 PM in response to pantherkentby Rocky9143,Mine if the 64gb model as well. I just recently chatted with a rep and they made me an appointment to have mine replaced at the nearby Apple store! He said he had no idea what could be causing it other then just a defect in the speakers. Mine will take extra time to get replaced though since mine is engraved! I would advice anyone to do the same.

Nov 2, 2014 5:06 PM in response to pantherkentby Tom70,Mine is the 64GB Wifi and cellular. I don't think it's actually a problem with the speaker, more like the amplifier switching and mute. If I was a gambling man I'd put money each way on counterfeit electrolytic capacitors or a DSP software problem.

Nov 3, 2014 6:15 AM in response to Tom70by andrestb,I went to the apple store yesterday..... since my iPad was engraved..... returned the original, nicked the charger ;-) ....... got instore credit and placed another order to get the engraving in my replacement device..... is 128 GB Cell....... like I said in my earlier post..... I think the Solar Flare on 24-October made this issue apparent and it happened 20x that day... after that it was only happening 1-3x / day.... but still gave me a feeling that there was something wrong in there...... hopefully these are individual defects not a production/design/sourcing issue.... will report back once the new one gets shipped out... cheers .... sounds like loads of folks are impacted...... NO IPAD THIS WEEK :-/

Nov 3, 2014 6:32 AM in response to Garth1988by AbraaovitorBR,i have a ipad 4 with iOS 8.1, after I install this iOS version I'm having some problems with the audio, every time i turn on my ipad 4 it is mute! or the audio is with with a really bad quality... I'm pretty sure that it is a iOS 8.1 BUG! because when i use headphones nothing changes.... i have to turn off my ipad and then turn on again! Sometime it works but it is not always! when I enable (and then disable) the mono audio, the problem disappears!! I'm pretty sure that it is a ios 8.1 bug...

Nov 3, 2014 7:02 AM in response to AbraaovitorBRby juahan,That is probably very much different issue, not related to this.

Nov 3, 2014 7:07 AM in response to andrestbby juahan,Solar flare induced sounds are an interesting idea. Not sure how realistic, but it gets me thinking as I live over 350 kilometers north from the Arctic Circle and lately there has been quite a lot of Northern Lights. I don't know how much more that kind of electrical activity here is compared to other parts of the world and if that can in any case even be the culprit for these pops. Then it would be badly shielded design which then would take interference from magnetic field of whatever it is. Nice idea, but probably very far fetched and incorrect.
