Dec 1, 2014 9:14 PM in response to NoPCinHereby Tom70,Could you describe in more detail how you "placed a voltage meter to the chassis"?
-
Dec 1, 2014 9:23 PM in response to Tom70by gwrx,I'm afraid half of what he has said is made up. This won't help our cause at all to have bragging and misinformation. For one a meter needs a circuit to give a reading, so he would have needed to have at least one end attached to the point where the voltage came from (inside) and the other to the the chassis.
Sorry this fellow has lied.

Dec 1, 2014 9:42 PM in response to gwrxby Tom70,Yep. I'm an electronics technician and it was fairly obvious that the meter story was ********. That's why I asked - to expose it.
I have thought of a way to monitor the supply rail without opening up the iPad so I might give that a go on the weekend.

Dec 1, 2014 10:49 PM in response to NoPCinHereby Martand,There is a "manger" in the Apple Store??! Like a Christmas nativity scene??
I put up a very short video on YouTube of a pop sound from my iPad. Could you please do a short video showing this supposed electrical spike as I fully believe it is a complete fabrication by you.

Dec 2, 2014 8:07 AM in response to Tom70by iCronos, iif it were a speaker software issue would it not effect all iPads Air 2's or other iPads for that matter?

Dec 2, 2014 8:15 AM in response to Martandby iCronos,TThere are managers and supervisors at Apple stores. Am I missing something? I am a bit confused about this subject to begin with. One, Has anyone taken their device to an authorized Apple dealer and had their iPads really looked at? Or is everyone just guessing?

Dec 2, 2014 8:48 AM in response to Garth1988by Xyz17,glad I found this forum as I'm having the same exact iPad Air 2 popping issue. I took my first iPad Air 2 to the Apple Store and got it swapped because of the audio pop, but the 2nd ipad is also popping (very very randomly).
my question is, has anyone been able to successfully swap/exchange to a new iPad Air 2 that does NOT pop? Or am I just wasting my time by going to the Apple Store every couple of weeks to do a swap hoping that I'll get a "good" one that doesn't pop?
any feedback is appreciated. Thx in advance.

Dec 2, 2014 9:00 AM in response to raficabby David Bedford,HI,
My 62Gig Air 2 has been making what sounds like capacitive discharge cracking noises appearing to be coming from the top half of the device. I was using Evernote at the time. From the volumn of the noise I would have to say if it was a capacitive discharge the iPad would be toast.. But other than the noise all appears to be working during and after the noise. So to me it appears a software issue, as I can't confirm if I had the speakers muted or not. . I have an appointment this coming Saturday at the Watford Apple Store to see what can be done... Will up date next week.

Dec 2, 2014 9:18 AM in response to iCronosby gwrx,If it was a hardware issue it would happen when you moved the device, bumped it, flexed it etc. We've already tried to explain how impossible 5volt arcing would be.
It happens opening an app, not during the app running. The "software" initialization process of opening the app at the same time as starting the sound driver is a likely cause. Apple hasn't had an IOS on multithreaded hardware and speed before and it's likely they have a bug.
Besides the real issue is getting Apple the admit to the problem. We are all screwed if we don't convnice them this is a real problem.

Dec 2, 2014 9:22 AM in response to gwrxby iCronos,IInteresting what if there was a problem with the processor or the RAM?
-
Dec 2, 2014 9:37 AM in response to iCronosby gwrx,Processor or RAM issues typically cause issues with everthing, not just starting an app. The IOS would hang, crash or damage data. The video image might break up. Every app you've ever run would eventulily crap out in some random way and definitely not just when starting it. It is not possible for a processor or RAM issue to just affect one thing.

Dec 2, 2014 9:48 AM in response to gwrxby iCronos,RRight you want to try and convince a top 10 billion dollar company that their flag ship device makes a popping noise right before Christmas? Why not just return it for a refund? I noticed it with in the first day of each of my returned exchanged iPad's; finally after the 3rd one I asked for a refund and that was two too many exchanges. Each time they denied it was an issue they refused to even review the community sites I pulled up on my iPhone 6. As I waited my son and friend went around and pulled up this very community thread on every IPad and computer they could get their hands on.
PEople see what they want to see. I saw a broken and very flawed device and took it back. If you really want to help stop telling people this is simply a "software" issue and tell them to return it for a refund. Money is the only thing Apple sees and listens to.
I Am afraid with out an exact diagnosis they are not going to admit to anything. And even then they will offer you another one or a refund. That is all they owe. I on the other hand due to my my trips to the store to try and solve this issue with no sccess received a hundred dollar credit, which we used. But as for getting anything else from Apple I knew I was lucky to get my money back. I wish all of you all the very best.
THey know there are faulty units out there, in fact Apple announced prior to the release they were having production problems with the screens and processors. They were going to push the date out to March 2015. But the bean counters said go. So if you honestly think Apple does not know there are problems with their hardware and software you are mistaken. They know, knew, and they will continue their business with or with out this thread.
ANYONE THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM TAKE IT STRAIGHT BACK TO APPLE AND GET A REFUND!!!

Dec 2, 2014 10:08 AM in response to David Bedfordby David Bedford,My IPA2 just popped with the volumn fully down, but not muted as I touched the home screen to access the app store.

Dec 2, 2014 10:33 AM in response to iCronosby gwrx,I think you could have made a friendly suggestion to use the return policy to get Apple's attention, without being hostile towards all of us. If we could get the email address of one of the VPs and send 30,000 complaint sthat would be useful.
i understand your anger but not why you are mad at us. We are all being screwed by Apple.
We need a plan.

Dec 2, 2014 11:00 AM in response to David Bedfordby gwrx,Yes David, oddly Apple doesn't use the mechanical insertion of headphones to break the connection to the speakers. They use software thus you can get sound from the speakers even muted and even with headphones inserted.
