Q: iPad air 2 pop noise

Sometimes I feel like if there is a problem with a small minority of anything , I'll get one, so I'm pretty happy ;-).

I'd wager the vast majority of Air 2 owners don't have any issues whatsoever with their device.  Still, I'm glad you're happy with the one Santa brought you.

Personallly i don't know if the people with issues is majority or minority what i really know Apple quality has definitely go on decline.

I still have my ipad retina 4 with me, yes its heavy but solid, 0 issues.

To you.  To the vast majority, who have devices that are running without issues, Apple quality has not declined in the least.

Has Apples product quality declined?

Not in the last 10 year of owning them for me NO, but remained much  the same, iBook mother board failed twice, White MacBook 7 repairs  triggered a Apple free replacement to a aluminium unibody MacBook, failed battery. Time capsule failed HDD after 18 months, Now Air 2 cracking noise top left of screen replaced..... So for me nothing's changed, Still alive and kicking without issues iMac, iPad 3, iPod Touch, Shuffle and Nano.

I love my Apple products but they fail just like anyone else's if not more frequently as they push the envelope to shift more units.

Exactly.  Electronics can fail, no matter who makes them.  My $1500 Nikon Camera had to be replaced recently.  It had a total failure.  Thank goodness I had purchased an extended warranty (much like AppleCare+) when I bought it, or I would have had to buy a new camera.

Nah you know exactly what i'm talking about. 2014 was a pretty special year for Apple.

Do we start?, what about the ipad air 2 vibration issues? why this annoying vibration? because of the stupid design and thickness, Apple is obssessive about doing things thinner and thinner hence you got 2 new "features" this year. Anoying vibration & screen distortion under pressure and those only for the ipad air 2.

Now, do you want me to start talking about  manufacturing issues like the pop on the ipad air 2 and the scratches on the iphone 6? nahhhh you don't want me to start talking.

On the other side i don't want to convince you, my opinion is enough for me, one word: declining....

I've posted this in this thread already, because it randomly produces the same loud popping noise on my device when doing the following:

 

1. Play a song in the Music app.

2. Open Settings/Music/Equalizer.

3. Switch between "Late Night" and "Latin" presets quickly while the song is playing. It's important to use the "Late Night" preset here.

 

You don't even have to play the audio file at high volume, the pop is much louder than the song itself.

I get more pops that way as with the Spotlight/keyboard "method".

But if I set the volume to zero and do the same the pops are gone until I raise the volume again.

That's the reason why I believe the pop comes from the speakers.

 

It would be interesting if the people who think they received a flawless device could try this out. If yours doesn't pop while switching the presets for a while, that would be interesting news.

 

About the static electricity in general. How shall a static charge build up in a device with a metal body which you are grounding every time you touch it?

 

 

 

Hi Air8, went to an Apple store a few minutes ago i tested 2 ipads 2 air a white and a gray space one. BOTH have the issues using the equalizer. My old ipad retina is the only one who doesn't pop. sigh..... pretty dificult to get a workin properly replacement i bet now all have this issue, if not i still need to find something who doesn't.

I tried the steps you suggested with my iPad Air 2 that I got a week ago after returning my first Air 2 that had the popping noise problem. My new Air 2 does not have the popping problem. Switching between the two EQs definitely creates a pop, but it's definitely not the same pop as the problem that people with the popping noise have had.  It sounds more like it's just a momentary sharp and very short increase in the volume of the in the music volume, as the pop appears to be connected to whatever note is playing.

^ This, same here im still not sure if the EQs pop is the same problematic pop. However my ipad retina doesn't make that sound.

IIt could just be a set of them that do that. Mine never has and its two months old or so now

I did get the sound with my 3rd gen iPad, but it wasn't as loud.  I just attributed it to different speakers.  Still, the EQ popping in the Air 2 was nowhere near as sharp and loud as in my Air 2 that actually had the problem. I think this EQ thing is just a software glitch at the worst; however I could see that it might actually trigger the popping defect in an affected Air 2.  I'm glad I still don't have the defective one to test this out :)

One leaf does not make a tree... It is a Hardware issue that is effecting I very small percentage of some first production iPads and if you don't or didn't call Apple to work to get an exchange or refund that is not Apple's fault.

Uh, it should be obvious from my comment that that is exactly what I did.  People affected should ensure that they return their defective iPads within the 14 day return window, since Apple hasn't officially recognized this problem.
