Q: iPad air 2 pop noise

My iPad Air 2 randomly has a "Pop Noise" out of the speaker. it happens randomly about once or twice a day when touching the screen or pressing a button. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Could it be a software issue or has it more likely to do with the hardware?

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 8.1

All I did was contact Apple support through the chat option and after a very brief discussion about the nature of the problem they offered to send me a replacement unit and collect the "defective" iPad via Post. I don't even have to go anywhere...

The strange thing is that since they run the diagnostic my iPad has stopped "popping"...   reminds me of my old Alfa!

Consider yourself lucky, but definitely not everybody is getting the same treatment.

    I like your style Nic.

They all parrot the same thing until the device makes the noise in front of a tech or while on the phone with Customer Service. "Then the speakers are bad and the software is corrupt."

If you can video it take it in they should give you an exchange. I would call Apple first and have a case # and allow them to schedule an appointment.

In my office I have HD video and audio security cameras. I used the iPad Air 2 for two hours then it popped, then following that as the keyboard popped up so I could type a return text in iMessage it popped again. It did this all day as usual. My security is all manged with Apple sponsored soft ware and cameras, so it was really simple for me to download it on to a thumb drive and made another appointment and took my MBA and played it as I sat there and waited for the tech to come. "Then there was a hardware and software issue and they were more than happy to help."

The only advantage Apple has is the intermittent sound pop But if you record it they will exchange it or refund. I have been told by the Genius Techs and Customer Service techs to get it on video. They even refered to the folks that did the YouTube stuff.

IN addition, the key is not just recording it you have to call Customer Service too. They document everything so if something happens down the road you have support behind you too. I would not be a pest but when it happens pick up the phone and call. Hopefully it will do it again as you are on hold or talking with them. Keep in mind they record the phone calls.

THe the other thing we did was I downloaded a free really good audio recorder and I have left it on all day and it picked up the popping sound and they were more helpful when I had that. But the best is video because they need to see you are not making that sound.

THese units cost any where between $500-$800.00 so it is very important to document and call Apple. I write emails, chat it up online with their online support  chat And I call Customer Service. I am nice and respectful every time I do it too. That is important too; not everything needs to be an argument. They have a job to do too, they just cannot ignore their responsibilities to Apple.

Another thing we have done is take the iPA 2's to another store After talking with a Senior iOS Advisor.  With any issues I call and email one advisor and he takes care of it. I had to play the game to get the treatment but it works.

And all of you too having the same problem but no answers I know it is frustrating but trust me if you do it right they have to follow their own policies. Well at least in my state they do.  I wish I could tell you there is a super fix but I really do not believe there is Or at least there isn't one yet. I read some really good EQ stuff that makes a lot of sense but again it does not answer the total randomness of the popping sound.

The the best advice I have read on several posts is to: call Customer Service make an appointment with the Geniuses and document what you can. In today's world with smart phones having video capabilities and if you have the iPhone 6 with time lapse video you could set the iPhone up and record you using the iPA2.

IF yours is anything like mine was it wont be long before you have a good video of the device popping or what ever it is doing.

i wish everyone all the best and success.

I Had the same experience while chatting to a Customer Service tech. I received the iPad with in two days placed my bad one in the same box sealed it and placed the self addressed Paid for FedEx label on it,,as the driver waited, and Baam it was that simple. It is Apples policy if you are having difficultis caused by manufacturing or their software they have no choice

THis his is how I view this whole thing: Apple took a huge leap and sprained their ankle which may impact their finals. They: change just about everything with this beast. The screen, the speaker, processors, Added a GB of RAM, different battery, better camera, smaller, finger print sensor, software, etc... Not to mention working with a foreign manufacturer to retool for a new device with new everything.

That is a lot to ask a Chinease manufacturer to do let alone they released a new iOS and OS and they have got to get Foxxconn to retool for the Apple watch which from what I have been reading has been a nightmare due do the sapphire glass, SDK, and the OS as well.

Not to mention the release of a new iMac, new Mac Pro, upgraded the MBA line with a list of new things as well. They also brought out MBP changes to the screen and other treats. Two new iPhones which are doing well in the market...

Now let's talk about training ALL the employees with in Apple. They not only had to train them on all the newbie stuff they also adapted a new process for dealing with iPhone returns and returns in general. One would say they have a lot on their plate. My only wish is they waited on the release of the iPad Air 2 as they first stated over the summer due to manufacturing issues. This devise is their Flag Ship and as it sales flattened so to has their stock. It has been stagnant since before the release of the new everything. Usually their stock rises after a new release but this time it has been, relatively speaking, flat. But on a good note it took a good bump recently which indicates something good has happened... I have been on vacation and I noticed a bump of 4. Points since I last checked. So, I am sure year end numbers were good and Foxxconn is buying the sapphire glass company to help with production specifics. Last I heard Apple withheld their final payment to the company due to issues with the glass. Oh the silicon world can be interesting.

NOw, lets talk a little about legal battles. Apple won their fight against the NSA which means if you own an apple device and if you want your information to stay on your device with out prying eyes you got it. Then the NSA started a bashing campaign against Apple and Apple had to say STOP IT for what "they" were implying is just not true. If the gov. Has a supenia or someone's life is in danger they can access a device. This is big stuff Apple has been dealing with not to mention things that go on behind the closed doors. Patent battles, R&D, etc...

SO popping iPads really seems trivial to them and sometimes Apple employees and Apple inc., forgets about how really matters and that is, YOU. So working with Apple to get what you need may be difficult but I have read some really awesome advice on this page alone That maybe able to help you.

The truth is the experiences some have shared are what we've come to expect in the US and Europe.  It is unfortunate your experience has not matched this in your country.

Pretty unfortunate it is the same company and the same device i should have exactly the same warranty as the 2 guys above. No one on Apple chat online has offered me a replacement, never, i have asked for it though.

No one on Apple Mexico recognize this pop as an issue, they all say the same: we have never heard about it.

I have advised you multiple times to elevate this further up the chain of command. With each person you speak with, ask who their manager is by name and ask to speak with that person.  Then do that with that Manager and keep marching up the ladder.

and do you think i haven't done it yet?, Nobody on Apple Mexico gonna give me a brand new ipad air 2 only because i ask for it dude, not even a high lever manager.

It is pretty simple here in Mexico: they only they have offered me is to take it to service, no new replacement warranty, no even accepting the pop as an issue. why? they have never heard about it here!

Me too, my bad.  I was honestly sympathetic to you and offered reasonable advice.  We are simply better off ignoring each other completely.
