Feb 12, 2015 9:53 PM in response to Mythteryby sanke1,Spoke too soon. My Air 2 still makes popping sound on iOS 8.3 Beta 1.
I Guess it might be hardware issue which Apple might want to sweep away under a rug.

Feb 12, 2015 10:07 PM in response to Mythteryby psikofunkster,im afraid to tell you that procedure is useless and your ipad is gonna pop again.
That is the typical solution apple support online offers a clean restoration...it doesnt solve this issue.

I have not tried it yet David. The Video was made immediately after the reset with Itunes with all standard settings!
And also various other reports describe the "POP" at 88-89%.
With my modest technical understanding I can only imagine that each Ipad Air 2 pops at 88-89% if you provoked it.
Next week I get a replacement unit and will see.
Sorry for my englisch i'am from Germany.
Nope at least my device pops completely random at that interval, nothing provoked here.

Feb 13, 2015 2:08 AM in response to psikofunksterby Mythtery,Prior to resetting, I could pretty much guarentee that my iPad Air 2's sound would pop on the first sound played after booting iOS. If it didn't pop the iPad was either devoid of all sound (irrespective of settings), or worked fine. I could usually get a pop or no sound at all within 3 restarts.
In the last 3 days, since resetting my iPad (without restoring from backup), I've restarted my iPad roughly 20 times in an attempt to provoke a pop. No sound issues so far.
In the worst case scenario, this goes someway to proving that the problem is less likely to be a hardware one (given that the hardware is exactly the same now as before). It may well be the case that the problem is with iOS 8 (e.g. sound lib corruption) or the backup/restore routines (e.g. possibly resulting from iPad Air 2 specific settings being incorrectly backup, spilling data into neighboring fields).
Probably the most damning evidence for the latter is what happened when I restored my poppy iPad Air 2's backup onto my iPad 3: Distorted sound (albeit at normal volume, without popping) occurring with the same regularity as sound problems on my iPad Air 2. My iPad 3 has been absolutely reliable for the last 2 years or so, and once I restored a different backup was fine again. If that doesn't scream backup/settings issue, I really don't know what does..
None of this gets Apple off the hook. They need to look into this problem and fix it properly, issuing a product recall if necessary, rather than simply replacing iPads ad hoc in the hope that the problem will go away.
Needless to say, if my iPad Air 2 pops again, it's going back and I'll be pushing for a full refund (as per the UK cosumer rights act). I'll also be sure to let folks here know too.

Feb 13, 2015 4:07 AM in response to Mythteryby Mythtery,Hmmm. Just tried Zanku's method of provoking a pop ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ug1MLqfJA8 i.e. fiddle with ringer volume in settings then toggle keyboard clicks on and off a few times). This managed to get a pop (amplified key click sound).
However, this pop isn't the same as the one I was getting on first sound after a restart. The main difference is that sound continues to work afterwards using Zanku's test, where as the pop after restart would result in no sound until the iPad was restarted.
That said, I'm going to get back onto Apple support about it ASAP, as these pops are not doing the iPad speaker, my ears or my nerves any good, and are certainly not something I'm prepared to put up with.

Feb 14, 2015 1:12 AM in response to sanke1by Singapore-User,MIne too!!! Its not fixed even with the latest iOS version.
Im suspecting this is a hardware flaw, not a software issue.
The speakers wired circuit must have a bug.

Feb 14, 2015 7:42 AM in response to David Bedfordby Drumtosurprise,Interesting question About the inferiority of the IPad Air 2.
1. The sound is a case vibrating, tin sounding ear damaging cornucopia of sounds.
2. The snap crackle pop is an upsetting, non consistent flaw created by the designers at Apple.
3. The keyboard loves to play games with double capitals and a refusal to allow alternative spelling.
4. Why does a thumb on the screen create a half screen of blank white?
5 Why does the the txt cut off along the left and sometimes right ? I guess Apple wants us to guess!
ONly a few of the reasons Air 2 is inferior. More to come.
My old IPad 2 had none of these problem.

2. The snap crackle pop is an upsetting, non consistent flaw created by the designers at Apple. If yours is popping taking it back. Mine doesn't pop
3. . The keyboard loves to play games with double capitals and a refusal to allow alternative spelling. Turn Auto Correction off in Settings > General > Keyboards > Auto Correction Off
4. Why does a thumb on the screen create a half screen of blank white? It shouldn't, so if your does, take it back. Mine doesn't.

Feb 14, 2015 8:18 AM in response to rbrylawskiby David Bedford,Great reply rbrylawski, for me the key benefits of the iPad Air 2 over the iPad2
Hi-res screen, faster, smaller, lighter, better cameras, better OS and runs ALL the current iOS iPad software.
and every once in a while a free pop...which I can live with! If the guys on here have such major issues buy
a Droid, then you will know what bad really is!

I have both Air and Air 2 in my household. Both are great devices, but I give the edge to the Air 2 for the very same reasons you listed.

I personally suggest you not to provoke it and keep it if doesn't pop with normal use.
Also personally this would be my last ipad, I have owned an ipad 1 a retina and this, yes the ipad is a great device but the pop keeps me away from fully enjoy it. Faulty devices like this are not good for my health.

Feb 14, 2015 2:31 PM in response to Alphacattby TP1999,Why should it have something to do with the processor or ram?
-
Feb 15, 2015 6:22 AM in response to Singapore-Userby TP1999,i still think it's software, otherwise it would not only occur when typing on a text field or other audio output actions.
when it would be hardware, the iPad would pop everytime you tap sometime on it (to exclude the static discharge).
