Don't want to lose my iPod Classic default games

Can I sync Windows 7 (or 8) iTunes 12.0.1.26 without losing iPod games that came with my iPod Classic 6 GB? Or should I manually add new content to my iPod so I don't lose my games? The games are currently on my iPod and I'm trying to get everything in my iTunes Media folder before moving the folder to a new Window 8 computer. I like the other games, but can't bear losing my beloved Klondike game.

iPod classic, Windows 7

The built-in games on an iPod classic are just that, built-in as part of the device's operating software. They cannot be removed using iTunes. If you have any other iPod Games connect the device and use transfer purchases to copy them into the library. They cannot be downloaded again from the iTunes Store so back them up or they are gone. If you restore the device the games are preserved, but your high-scores and options will be reset.

The correct setting for the media folder path is normally <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Media. The library files should be in the folder above.

iPod Quiz, Klondike & Vortex don't ever exist as .ipg files on your computer. They cannot be extracted from the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder or anywhere else.

Consolidating copies in any content stored outside of the media folder into it. Nothing is added or removed from the library.

See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested backup strategy.

OK. So that I totally understand this: if I Sync iTunes with my iPod Classic and my iTunes folder contains an iPod Games folder, iTunes will not delete the iPod Games folder or the games contained in it - correct?? I ask because I've read too many posts that say it does delete iPod Games.

One more question - because the iTunes folder contains several iTunes files (.itl, .itdb, .xml, sentinel) should the File Location (EDIT PREF ADV) be c:\Users\name\music\iTunes or c:\Users\name\music\iTunes\iTunes Media. I ask because I've read articles that say both - a little confusing.

Thanks for your help on this.

OK, that helps to know; but my default games are currently on my iPod but not in the iPod Games folder - would there be any chance of iTunes deleting the games on my iPod because of this?? Or, should I go to a Previous iTunes Library file to retrieve the game.ipg files??

Also, is there any chance my iPod Games folder (and/or contents) would be deleted if I select FILE LIBRARY ORGANIZE LIBRARY CONSOLIDATE (library)?? Just trying to cover all bases before I attempt anything.

c:\Users\name\music\iTunes folder contains: .itl, .itdb, .xml, sentinel files and Album Artwork, iTunes Media, Previous iTunes Library folders. Is that the correct structure??

I only have the three default games, so, I can do an iTunes Sync with my iPod Classic and iTunes will not delete my default games - yes??

After reading the article SyncToy, it does look interesting as it should be able to do an actual sync by updating both ways between the contents in my iTunes Media folder and the contents of my iPod Classic folder (probably in "Enable Disk Use" mode). I'll make a back-up of what I have before I try, just in case... thanks for the suggestion!!

OK, if I understand what you said about consolidation, its' function is to copy content into the iTunes Media folder - isn't that where the library is stored?? Yet above you say consolidation doesn't add or remove from the library - huh?? : | I do have "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library" selected (EDIT PREFERENCES ADV).

Yes.

No, The iPod stores media in a different folder structure from your main library. Your library should be backed up to a secondary drive so that if/when your main drive fails you have a working copy to recover. Same goes for other personal data.

Consolidation is used when people may have had the Copy files... option turned off at some point in the past, or have held down Ctrl when dragging items to the library. By "add or remove" from the library I mean that the count of songs, movies, TV shows etc. and particularly iPod Games, isn't changed by consolidating. The total number of files inside the media folder can change if there were any unconsolidated items at the start of the process.

Decided to tinker around a bit before Syncing the iTunes Library to my iPod Classic. Connected my iPod and was selecting what to sync... new problem??

Under the iPod Summary in iTunes I can't uncheck Sync Games. Do you know if iTunes will erase the default games on the iPod or just leave them alone even though Sync Games is checked??

Thanks for all the help 😝

I got thinking... since iPod Summary Sync Games was checked and I couldn't uncheck it; when I closed iTunes (with iPod plugged into my computer) it synced with my iPod. To my surprise when I reopened iTunes, disconnected my iPod, then checked the contents of my iPod - the three default games were indeed still on my iPod. I was over cautious, but now my iPod is in sync with my iTunes Library and all works fine - you were totally correct. Thanks for walking me through this.
