Q: iCloud Drive: Yosemite and iOS 7 conflict

Hi, I just installed OS X Yosemite.

Now it asks me to enable iCloud Drive, but it warns me that if I'll do that I won't be able to access iCloud documents in iOS 7.

So: I have an iPhone 4S with iOS 7, I had OS X Mavericks, and both were synchronizing apps through iCloud (1Password for example, or Day One).

Now it seems upgrading my Macbook OS I lost the possibility to sync apps data between my two Apple devices, since Yosemite requires iCloud Drive, while iOS 7 is incompatible with iCloud Drive.

Is it correct? Is it really like that? And if the answer is yes, why Apple didn't advise me that if I upgrade to Yosemite I shall upgrade to iOS 8 too?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2008), OS X Mavericks (10.9), 2.4 GHz, 8 GB RAM

Yosemite sports iCloud Drive, but it does not require it.  Only, once you upgrade to iCloud Drive, there is no way back. Don't enable it, while you are unsure about the options.

I think instead that it requires it, in order to sync apps data between devices, like I said 1Password or Day One.

1Password for example tells me that it can't sync data because "iCloud is not enabled", it seems obvious to me that it refers to iCloud Drive, which is not enabled on Yosemite and so it prevents 1Password to access iCloud documents, where it used to save its data

Am I wrong? Is there a way to keep apps synchronizing between Yosemite and iOS 7?

Upgrade to IOS8 on your phone.

it can't sync data because "iCloud is not enabled", it seems obvious to me that it refers to iCloud Drive, which is not enabled on Yosemite and so it prevents 1Password to access iCloud documents, where it used to save its data

If you look at the iCloud System Preferences, you'll see which options require iCloud Drive and which don't.

and what if I had an iPhone 4?

I agree that new features will go only on new devices, even just for marketing purposes and not for technical ones, but here Apple is REMOVING a feature I was using on my iPhone 4S just because I upgraded my Macbook. It's really without sense.

Are you using your iPhone for photos? If you upgrade to iOS 8 iPhoto will no longer be supported, so you cannot create journals or photo books, or retouch and tag your photos. Just be warned. And as long aster is no matching Photos.app on your Mac, you will not be able to transfer edited photos from your iPhone.

You know the answer to that, and you don't have an iPhone 4.

I have the same problem, but I have an iPhone 4 so I can't update to iOS 8.

Hope there will be a solution soon.

There is no solution, the iPhone 4 is too old to run IOS8, it will not get any younger. Do not upgrade your account to iCloud Drive if you can't upgrade your phone to match.
