my cap locks wont turn off, even when i reset and shut down my computer! Also the cap lock key light is not on and the cap locks are still on, how can i go about fixing this! Thanks
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I know NVRAM and SMC, and done it first thing. No avail.
Only way is to unplug/replug USB keyboard from iMac. When I replug it,
CAPS lock green light is lit. I have to unlock it and it's back to normal.
A dozen of times since a week. Apple Care replaced keyboard. No avail.
Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.
Try a SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.
Check your Accessibility settings:
"System Preferences" > "Accessibility" > Disable "Enable Sticky Keys"
That's just my first thought.
It may not be Caps Lock that is engaged.
When you press one of the top row number keys, is the indicated number entered? Example: press the 7 key; is 7 entered, or is & entered?
If the shifted character (such as & for the 7 key) is entered instead of the number, then one of the Shift keys on the keyboard is stuck in the down (engaged) position. This would explain why the Caps Lpck indicator light is not on.
If this is the case, the stuck Shift key could be the result of a liquid spill, or a result of mechanical failure. In either case, replacing the keyboard is the usual solution.
NOT SO FOR ME : I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH 3 DIFFERENT KEYBOARDS (AS YOU CAN SEE NOW ;-)
ONLY WAY FOR ME IS TO CLOSE SESSION AND REOPEN IT.
