iTunes stuck on 'Checking iTunes Library' after Yosemite update

Hi,

After updating to Yosemite, my iTunes and iPhoto will not open for me. iTunes gets stuck on 'Checking iTunes Library' and iPhoto just freezes immediately. I tried erasing and reinstalling them but it did not work. I've restarted and reopened and tried picking specific libraries and I get as far as picking the library, then it freezes on 'Checking iTunes Library' forever.

Here is a snap of my Console while trying to open iTunes, if this helps...

Go to your iTunes folder in finder and delete this file (iTunes Library Genius.itdb). Worked for me.

That worked. I'm tired of how buggy and bloated my favorite program has become. The one that swayed me to the Mac from Windows. All of these obscure bugs and workarounds. Time to export my library to Spotify. Using that to listen to my library during the infinite progress bar or beach ball. The music is on my hard drive ***?!!

nikimac,

Have you tried rebuilding your iPhoto library using the following procedure?

To rebuild the iPhoto library:

  1. Quit iPhoto if it is open.
  2. Hold down the Command and Option keys on the keyboard.
  3. Open iPhoto.
  4. Keep the keys held down until you are prompted to rebuild the library.
  5. A dialog will appear with rebuild options. Select the options you want to use.
  6. Click Rebuild to begin the rebuild process.
