Q: iOS 8.1 is a minor disaster

I am finding iOS 8.1 a minor disaster. Although it has some interesting features many of them aren't working.

Meanwhile, below is what I have experienced since upgrading from iOS 7:

- Keyboard shortcuts no longer work...at all

- iPad Air hangs for 2-5-10-30 seconds where I can do nothing. Then it responds again. Happens frequently and repeatedly.

- App crashes happening 5x+ what I encountered in iOS 7

- Everything is much slower and choppy. Fluid experience totally gone

- WiFi seems to degrade or just stop at times. Have to repeatedly restart modem/router. Never had to do this with iOS 7

- Taps are less predictable. Frequently I have to tap twice to invoke an action. Never quite sure when a tap will work or not

iOS 8.1 has been a minor disaster and a major disappointment. I wish I could get back on iOS 7. This unfortunately parallels the Windows Vista and Windows 8 upgrades where users instantly wanted to return to Windows XP or Windows 7. Maybe the "8” versions of OSs are cursed. But with Windows, you could go back...not with iOS.

We need an iOS 8.2 that fixes all these problems and restores performance. Soon!

    Try some basic troubleshooting:

    (A) Try reset iPad

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

    (B) Try reset all settings

    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)

    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

If nothing else works, do a reset to factory default by using your iTunes program on your computer. That will give you a clean system install. Doing an erase from your iOS device will not clean up your existing system. Also be sure to do your backups.

Did #1. About 20 times in past 3 days.

#2 and #3 are risky because even with backups, thinks don't always restore and you are forced to figure out what did/didn't. A BIG problem with 800 apps, 200 folders, and lots of data.

How about Apple tells us how THEY are going to fix this rather than us spending hours of time GUESSING what might/might not work. If I knew one thing worked--FOR SURE--I would be willing to go though the hassle.

iOS 8.1 as become like Windows Vista. For all problems, MS recommended doing a clean install.

You can backup on iTunes and it will backup everything including settings.

The iOS 8.0.1 was pulled in a few hours from release. You say you have that, so you need to get out of that release immediately, as it was replaced!

For troubleshootimg purposes, you need to do the reset to factory default with your iTunes program. And then do not restore any of your data. At that point, you have the same "factory fresh condition" for the iPads as the iPad 2 units that Apple is selling today on their website. At that point, you need to go,through everything and see what it's like in factory fresh condition, because other users here have found (sometimes) that there are problems from restoring their backup. Let us know how it is without any of your stuff on there and without any of your apps on there.
