Oct 27, 2014 7:01 AM in response to daydeerby léonie,★HelpfulHave you installed the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.02* ? That introduces the Raw support for your camera, see this list: OS X Mavericks: Supported digital camera RAW formats
This RAW support requires Aperture 3.4.5. or iPhoto 9.4.3
You can download this update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1713
Bit this update requires at least Mt. Lion, so you will have problem to install it with Lion.

Oct 27, 2014 10:04 AM in response to léonieby torreypines,★HelpfulLeonie is correct - and it is interesting that there have been a flurry of questions on the forum here since the Yosemite release about importing Nikon NEF/RAW files from folks who are running older versions of Apple OSX and older versions of Aperture. The problem is that while many folks have had good results in the past with their older models of Nikon DSLRs using earlier versions of Aperture and Apple OSX - Nikon's newer DSLR models really need the user to update to the current versions of Apple OSX and Aperture in order to import RAW files. I guess you have a choice of either just shooting and importing JPEG with your d5300 or perhaps needing to buy a new Apple platform that can run OSX Yosemite 10.10 and Aperture 3.6?
