Wifi problems with Yosemite

So since I updated to Yosemite, I have trouble with my wifi. I cannot connect properly and its affecting my work since I can't do anything related with internet. It`s almost a week now, is there any update or something we can do (not starting up the computer) to improve this. do we have to got back to Maverick? We need help (I don't believe Im the only one) ASAP!

It doesn't work if you are connected to this university's all-accross-theEuropeanUnion-spread network called Eduroam. You cannot change the router's settings and all the network administrators blame Yosemite (and Apple) for this every-minute-disconnection of your wifi.

Apple, you must make this fixed ASAP. I've been struggling with this problem (disconnection from any wifi network every 30sec - few minutes) for 6 days already.

There is a lot been said about WiFi problems in Yosemite.

-- WEP, this is not supported anymore but it should not lead to serious problems. If possible reset the router and set WPA/2.

-- Choose 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz, or in 5 GHz set the channel between 50 and 100, or turn off Bluetooth; this helps some users.

-- More:

1 turn off WiFi

2 in Finder go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

and move the following plists to the desktop:

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

com.apple.network.identification.plist
com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist

NetworkInterfaces.plist

preferences.plist

3. restart the mac.

4. Turn on the WiFi again. New plists are generated. Check the WiFi settings.

There are definite bugs in Yosemite that need to be addressed by Apple. Multiple people are experiencing Wifi issues with fresh installs of Yosemite.

I was experiencing consistent Wifi issues after a fresh install of Yosemite. I validated that it wasn't my computer or router by doing a fresh re-install of Mavericks. Wifi works flawlessly under Mavericks but always fails under Yosemite. No other software was installed as part of this test.

Here is my configuration:

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1

Processor Name: Intel Core i5

Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

L3 Cache: 3 MB

Memory: 10 GB

Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B27

SMC Version (system): 1.68f99

Serial Number (system): C2QGV006DVHJ

Hardware UUID: XXXXX

Sudden Motion Sensor:

State: Enabled

After working with an Apple senior supervisor for several weeks on this very issue (he consulted with several wifi and bluetooth specialists), we finally came to the following solution, which has solved this issue for me and for the rest of my family who were also experiencing the wifi problem:

1. Turn off bluetooth.

2. Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.

3. Open System Preferences. In the "Energy Saver" preference, de-select "Wake for network access" (no check, and leave it that way).

4. Open the finder. Select the "Go" menu. Select "computer." Select "Macintosh HD." Go the the "Library" folder. Go to the "Preferences" folder. Find the preference file "com.apple.bluetooth.plist."

5. Rename "com.apple.bluetooth.plist" as "com.apple.bluetooth.plist.old" (i.e. add ".old"). Eventually, if this solution works for you, you can delete this "old" preference file.

6. Restart your computer (this will create a new "com.apple.bluetooth.plist" preference file).

7. Turn bluetooth back on.

Apparently, the problem is a bug caused by a bad interaction between the bluetooth preference file and wifi.

Good luck.

Thank you. I followed the same steps you mentioned which I found here: http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/25/fix-wi-fi-problems-os-x-yosemite/#comment-1089537

New Macbook Pro 2015 wifi dropping out intermittently and upon wake from sleep and startup.

After calling Apple 4 times and none of them being "aware" of any problems with Yosemite and wifi connectivity and none of their solutions working (pram, sram, etc.), your solution has worked, so far, for me.

When dragging the files to a new folder on the desktop (com.apple.network.identification.plist wasn't there for some reason) it appeared as though they had just copied over and still appeared in the system configuration folder, but I restarted the computer anyway and the wifi has been solid since.
