What you are saying is not making any sense. Can you post a screenshot of this full screen you are seeing? All of these ads? And just to let you know, the iPhone 4S is rated for iOS8.1, so that is not the max on 4S.

Connect the phone to your computer. After a few seconds you should see a little rectangular icon that is supposed to look like an iPhone at the top of the screen. Click on it.
