Oct 27, 2014 1:58 PM in response to Bothybotby Niel,You need to use a disk to reinstall 10.6.8 or earlier. It doesn't necessarily need to be the computer's original disks; on a G4 or G5 Mac, you can use a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD.

Oct 27, 2014 5:51 PM in response to Bothybotby a brody,There is a lot of confusion here as to what you really want.
No 2013 Mac can run 10.5.8.
Niel's advice about 10.6.8 should not ever be mentioned for any PowerMac, if that's what you have, since PowerMacs won't run 10.6.8. The latest they will run is 10.5.8, although the Intel Macs could run 10.5.8 if they are older than August 28, 2009.
PowerMacs were last on the scene in early 2006.
10.5.8 was last new before August 28, 2009.
10.8.5, if you switched the numbers was the operating system from September 12, 2013.
Use this tip to identify your Mac:

Only Macs older than July 20, 2011 came with pre bundled discs (the exception is Macs whose model was not refreshed until later, such as the October 24, 2011 MacBook Pro). Others require an internet restore.
Note: Classic refers to the virtualized operating system for PowerMacs available under Mac OS 10.4.11 or earlier for Mac OS 9 from 2001 or earlier.
