AOC external monitor not working with Yosemite

This weekend I purchased an AOC i2369Vm 23" monitor. It comes with a CD with drivers on it. They are all for windows. As are all the drivers on their website.

I have a MacBook Pro from late 2011 running OS X 10.10, Yosemite.

Am using a mini-display port to HDMI adaptor from Moshi. Same adaptor that I previously used.

Have tried the HDMI cable supplied with the monitor and my old one.

Have tried PRAM reset.

Have tried SMC reset.

All my updates are up to date.

Have tried 'System Preferences' 'Detect Displays' (that took a while to find, glad someone posted something about pressing alt).

When I plug in the HDMI to my MBP, it recognises something is there, all that happens is that the screen flickers occasionally and the mouse suddenly lags like crazy, until I unplug, then it's fine again.

The most I can get the display to do is read 'no signal'.

Any help would be most appreciated.
