Is Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB the same as NVIDIA GeForce in Macbook Pro Retina?

I bought the Macbook Pro with the dedicated graphics card, which should be a NVIDIA but when I look at the system profile it shows Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, Is this the same thing?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

The higher end MacBook Pros have both the Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, and the NVIDIA GeForce. The Iris pro is integrated into the CPU, and the NVIDIA is a separate graphics card. By default, it will switch between the two graphics cards based on your computer's demands at the moment. It will use the Iris to save power, and the NVIDIA for better performance. The one it is showing you in that About this Mac page is the one it is using at that moment. Open an application like Photoshop, plug in a monitor, or run some graphic intense processes, and then click about this mac, and you will see that it has changed. You can disable this, and make it always use the faster graphics card by going into System Preferences > Energy Saver and then uncheck automatic graphics switching. This will use more power, though, and the performance increase will be minimal.

Hi Sparon, I'm also wondering this because I am interested in buying a game that list under Mac Requirements it says,

"nVIDIA Geforce GTX 660, 2GB. Does not support Intel Integrated Graphics Cards".

Under 'About this Mac' in Memory, I have an Intel Iris 1536 MB. When I go to Energy Saver there is no 'Automatic Graphics Switching' option. Is this because I do not have the NVIDIA or possibly due to the El Capitan update? I have the MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) model if that helps.

Also if I do not have the nVIDIA does this mean the game will not work on my Mac?

I have a similar problem: the game "does not support Intel Integrated Graphics Card."

My "About This Mac" shows only the Intel Iris 1536 MB, even with Photoshop opened.

Alas, I have the same machine as yours (13", Late 2013) and according to these specs this machine has no faster graphics.

I guess we can't play these games... (ᗒᗣᗕ)

Btw, according to the same specs, the high-end 15" machine has an AMD Radeon R9 M370X. However, according to benchmarks even that is not enough - it is inferior to the GeForce GTX 660.

(The game I want to buy requires only GeForce GTX 260, so the MacBook Pro 15" would have sufficed.)
