can't delete hidden photos

iOS 8.1 .. have some photos marked as hidden, but now I can't delete them. I can either hide or unhide, but the delete option is missing. How do I get them off my phone? I have tried browsing the phone's file system but don't see these photos anywhere.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1

Were these photos synced via iTunes from your computer?

Photos synced via iTunes cannot be deleted directly from the device. They can only be removed via iTunes sync.

iTunes: Syncing photos

Scroll down to the To delete synced photos and videos from your device section

This might be too late but I had the same problem...this is what worked for me:

-Settings

-General

-Date & Time

-Removed the "Set Automatically" and then you can manually enter a date.

Set the date for about 3 years ago. eg. Sept 5, 2012

-Then go to Photos

-Albums

-Recently Deleted- Now you will find lots of photos that never were really deleted and are still taking up space on your phone!

-Select

-"Delete All"

-Return to Settings- General- Date & Time and change back to "Set Automatically"

This should delete the photos and free up space.

I even went to the Genius Bar and they couldn't find the photos. I found this solution in a Support Community thread.

Hi Jack there was another thread that I can't find now - SG Yoho solved the problem with a work around - didn't cost anything, didn't have to download anything.

  • With iOs 8 - he/she changed the date manually to a date in the past
  • then check your removed photos (open the folder even if it says 0)
  • Select all and delete

(it said 0 photo's in my deleted folder but when I opened the folder I had 3,075 photo's and a bunch of video's in that folder (again even though it said 0). I had to do this three times going back a few months at a time until I had it cleaned up.

Big thank you to SG Yoho!

That is strange. I am not experiencing that.

Try this:

Quite all apps: Double tap the Home button and swipe the app preview page up for each open app

then

Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

I saved a picture to my camera roll, held the pic until I got the "hide" option, hid the picture. It goes into the hidden album, but still shows up in the "recently added" album. If I delete it from there, it deletes from the hidden album too. Am I doing something wrong?

OK PEOPLE! I SPENT 3 HOURS WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE PLUS 2 HOURS OF PERSONAL FRUSTRATION WITH THIS PROBLEM, BUT THEN I FINALLY FIXED IT!

Go and download iFunBox for your computer, then open your phone up to see the files. Bam, they finally popped up (it was 4 GB of lost space for me) and I was able to delete it through this app! Hope this helps!

I'd tried but it doesn't worked it out. I'd tried to reset the iPhone, and again nothing happens, but After the reset I select one photo from hidden album and choose to show it, the photo came out from album but it doesn't appeared in ano place. Simply vanished! Like magic....

This was REALLY REALLY HELPFUL! Thanks a LOT!!!

I tried to set back the dates because I want to delete "hidden" photos in my iPhone.

My phone is iPhone4S

First, go to SETTINGS > GENERAL > DATE & TIME > Set the date back a year ago, it depends on you.

Go to home, go to PHOTOS > whoa! there's a RECENTLY DELETED PHOTOS, just delete them all and you save a lot of memories in your phone!

I had the same issue along with several other problems with my photos. apply really needs to fix their photos app, and the manner in which it syncs with your other devices. Go back to itunes syncing! Why cam't I just plug my phone in and sync on my imac. I cannot do this anymore, it drives me insane!
