Q: Yosemite and Macbook 5,1

Yosemite claims support for Macbook 5,1 (aluminium late 2008), but in my experience this simply isn't true.

Runs Mavericks fine, but several attempts at upgrade and a visit to the Apple Store (Apple Genius blamed it on a corrupted install) and Yosemite will still not install. I can still recover to Mavericks, luckily. I can buy one corrupted install, but not several.

Symptoms are install comes down the pipe just fine, install forces a reboot and then I get a grey screen of death within seconds that cycles the same boot procedure a few times, with an added warning screen "hit any key" inserted for good measure, before giving up. Unix boot text that splashes over Apple window is too fast to read, but something really early on in the boot-up, init.d or something, I don't recall exactly.

Recovery does not allow me to install Yosemite, only re-install Mavericks. Disk Utility, repair disk, fixed boot issue without a need to re-install anything, but Macbook simply returns to Mavericks. Which I think implies Yosemite install didn't even get going before is crapped out.

Any ideas?
