Q: OS X Yosemite RAM Issues - kernel_task

Hello All,

 

I have a Mid 2011 13" MBA with 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD. As of yesterday my computer has been slow and sluggish. When I open the Activity Monitor, I see that kernel_task is taking up a lot of Memory - At some points 3.15GB. As of now its around 2GB. I upgraded to Yosemite last week sometime, so it was running well for a while. Are others having the same issue? (A google search says yes " high kernel_task usage " ... So does anyone have a fix?)

 

I appreciate any, and all the suggestions.

    Hello,

     

    Kernel_task is taking too much RAM of my MBP. I'm having safari crashes and bad performace. Could someone take a look and advise me?

    Piggy backing on someone else's thread is not really a good way to be seen.  You should be starting your own thread that you can control the discussion.

     

    But you kernel_task is not really too bad for an 8GB system.  It is less than what a 16GB system would be using, but slightly more than a rock bottom 8GB system.

     

    You are running anti-virus and that is unnecessary and could be contributing to your slightly high kernel_task memory usage.  All kernel extensions get lumped into kernel_task and your anti-virus is a kernel extension.

     

    How does Mac OS X protect me?
