For Apple pay is it better to use thumb print or finger print?

I haven't actually done a scientific comparison, but after having my iPhone 6 from the first day of availability I have a feeling that my index finger has more success opening the iPhone than my thumb. I also decided after thinking about things to add fingerprint #3 and #4 to my Touch ID, which are actually a second capture of my index finger and my thumb a second time each to see if that would increase the success rate of each. I don't know that it has changed anything, but it would appear that it should.
You can setup more than one finger/thumb on the iPhone. I have mine setup for me and a friend to access my iPhone.
