Q: Yosemite has no sort by name in Mail App

Yosemite has what I would say is a bug- it is certainly at least a dropped feature.

I'm sure that most people view mail sorted by date as do I.  But sometimes I want to view all mail from a particular sender.  All previous versions of mail allowed you to simply click on any mail in the inbox and then simply click the "sort by name" tab at the top to see all letters sorted by name, beginning with the selected email.  Now in Yosemite, instead of beginning with the selected email, it instead starts at "A" or "Z" ignoring the selected email.  I would suggest that this is helpful to exactly nobody.  I'm hoping this is just a bug/oversight that will be quickly fixed.  "Sort by name" is king of important to those of who are heavy users.

And yes, I understand that I can do a search.  But this brings up every email that even mentions the sender and searching and then sorting is super cumbersome compared to the one click method that has seemingly been abandoned.  Hoping there's a fix in sight!

Thank you BigHealey66.  I appreciate your understanding.

As for harvestnz and anyone else who wants to send along the "get over it" message, I point to my previous post.

Again, the "one-click" work around is helpful.  It does NOT fix it.  It still requites three clicks or button presses and then a scroll down to find the name.  The original function was in fact one-click.  And finding a work around is not the same as a fix.  The emotion behind my posts doesn't come from the severity of the issue.  It comes from my attempting to bring it to Apple's attention and their total lack of acknowledgment that it is an issue (they won't even address it).  And then to come here and be told by you to "get over it" furthers that.  I love Apple and I would love for them to acknowledge their issues for one reason-- so they can fix them and get better.  And yes, I do lead a charmed life that I can spend the time I have addressing this issue.

Glad we all agree and that we kept this going.  I know many of you have left feedback as well which is great.  Yes sort, then arrow works fine.  It's a small issue, sure.  But It's about workflow and time, which we have less and less of these days, so one or two more clicks here and there is going backwards. This is not why we got MAC's to begin with nor is it expected from a yet again revised, new and improved operating system introduced to not only improve workflow, but to insure our old computers become obsolete so we buy another every 3-5 years.  Just when we think we have an appliance we can rely on....pfffft!

Not sure why bighealy felt he or she needed to chime in if the thread was not important to him or her, but clearly doesn't understand the level of efficiency that some people are used to (or rely on quite frankly). Lucky for them i guess, but this is not the place to "give advice" on how not to be a complainer. Adios.

Agreed that this may be the biggest fail of all time in any Apple update. Eliminating this feature drastically reduces the effectiveness of using Apple Mail. PLEASE fix!!!

Hello, I have the same problem and I think it is a major problem that needs to be fixed urgently! We are working many years at Mail and it is a pity that this

    has changed.

Moreover in Mail you cannot see the attachments below the subject of the message. If you remember in Snow Leopard there was a little arrow that when you clicked, it opened in icons the attachments and it was very good because you could save then directly to a folder. Now if someone sends you a word file and a pic and a pdf, you see them at the end of the message which is not so convenient.

Not to mention the worst thing that they replaced the colored folders with a small dot!

Surely Yosemite runs faster and more smoothly but I think that they are sacrificing productivity over design!

Indeed. OR when you select the little paperclip icon just above that.

Thank you for your reply, but you see there is still this problem:  the paperclip has the action to save all the attachments, and when a sender has send you

let's say 3 pictures and one word file when you push save all to a specific folder you will also save the pictures that the sender puts in his signature! And because more and more put all the social media icons, it is very annoying to save all of them! Moreover if the sender has written you a big letter and the attachments are always at the end, it is not so obvious what to save. You have to right click and make them icons.

See the attachment and remember how easier it was at Snow Leopard to save whatever attachment you would like. You just had to click on the little arrow.Screen Shot 2015-01-29 at 10.42.35.png

Wrong: the icon makes the same choice visible as the line:

I am also having this issue obviously as everyone else. Simply put, this functionality needs to be reinstated. The sooner the better, we are all losing efficiency daily.

simple solution. If you click 'From' column it will then sort all by alphabetic order, then up arrow (or down) you will arrive at your message. It works but it is a bug. Please fix Apple!

    Not fixed in 10.10.3

I have found that sorting sometimes works when I am only displaying a mail folder rather than the whole Inbox. However it is unpredictable and therefore useless.

Retaining a selected record when sorting records is a fundamental requirement of databases. My Open Access DOS database from 1985 had this feature!

Just to be clear, here are snapshots of Mail sorting not working:

    Mail item selected

    mail_sort_bug2.jpg

Clicking on "From" sorts by sender but jumps to the top (or bottom) of list
