Oct 28, 2014 8:22 PM in response to atlas jonesby Kappy,So, you are stating that the negative press you've read will increase the time to complete your project by a factor of 5? What is this based on? Have you read positive press about it. If you read exactly the same number of words they will balance each other out.
There is no easy solution:
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

Nov 1, 2014 11:00 AM in response to Kappyby atlas jones,Hi Kappy,
Thanks for the quick response!
The project I am working on uses a notation software called Finale 2012. I use it to notate music. On my other computers a Finale entry is immediate. Now it takes 3-5 seconds and the program crashes constantly. In other words, when I enter a note into a score, it should be immediate. It's like the Finale program hesitates or acts frozen for 3-5 seconds before the note occurs in the score. The work I am doing for Wednesday involves thousands of measures of music and probably tens of thousands of notes and other pertinent information. At this rate, I will not make the deadline and will risk not getting paid. The effects will be devastating.
I thought that maybe my Finale files were corrupt, but they are working fine on my office computer, onto which I have not installed Yosemite. Unfortunately, my office is across town.
Thanks for your advice. I will follow your instructions ASAP.
Best,
Victor

Nov 1, 2014 11:07 AM in response to atlas jonesby Old Toad,Give this a try: boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and the disk. Reboot normally and check to see if there's any improvement.
Also have you run any "cleaning" or "optimizing" apps on your Mac or have any antivirus software installed?

Activity Monitor in Mavericks has significant changes
Why your Mac runs slower than it should
Things you can do to resolve slowdowns see post by Kappy
Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read.

Dec 27, 2014 7:04 AM in response to Kappyby Bishaw,Hi, so it appears that a few people are experiencing difficulty with Yosemite. You have mentioned that it is best to follow the steps you recommend while connected to the Internet. Yosemite has disconnected my internet and I am unable to reconnect therefore following your steps will be difficult, any other suggestions? I live in a country that does not have an Apple Store and am relying on easy steps that a novice could do. Yosemite is a nightmare. Sue

Dec 27, 2014 9:35 AM in response to Bishawby Old Toad,Can you connect to the internet via Ethernet so you can reinstall the system, etc. Much safer due to the possibility of wireless dropouts.

Dec 27, 2014 10:12 AM in response to Old Toadby Bishaw,Hi,
i have spent the evening with Apple Support who remotely accessed my lap top and guided me through cleanign up my computer. There were a few add ons etc that were slowing things down and they also sorted out my internet connection and now everything seems to be running smoothly and quickly with Yosemite. So I susspect if you have add ons and popups and possible virus attachments which is stuffing up Yosemite, you may need to clean your computer first then download Yosemite and I suspect everything should be okay

Dec 27, 2014 12:40 PM in response to Bishawby Bernadette Walker, the sad thing is that many of us have no Apple Tech support anymore because it ran out. I had to actually revert back to Maverick in order to even use my MacbookPro who crawled after upgrading to Yosemite. I am glad for you that you could get it going but with mine, I was not able to use PremierePro anymore or update via Adobe Creative cloud any longer. This was the worst upgrade ever and I have been using Mac's for a long time. I won't upgrade any time soon. I wish I had tech support because they would have saved me a lot of time and anxiety. God for you though. Wish I could use Yosemite because loved the cloud services and family plan but not worth this slow computer.
