On icloud drive, I have noticed that files that I've recently worked on will occasionally get stuck in a "renaming loop." iCloud will add a number to the end of the file name and then perpetually count up this number which makes it impossible to interact with the file because the file name keeps changing. For example, you might have "filename.doc" and then it will start counting "filename 1.doc" to "filename 2.doc". Is there a way to prevent this?
I had the same issue. However logging into iCloud.com I found the issue. Apparently there was already a file by that name, however it wasn't listed in iCloud Drive on my Mac. After removing this ghost file through iCloud.com, I was able to rename the file in iCloud Drive.
Yes, this is happening to me, too. I had a PDF that was been renaming in number a couple times a second. The file was stored in the cloud, I edited it, saved it to the cloud, then the renaming began. There was no way to stop it -- I was forced to delete it.
I just had the same problem.
Deleting the file and adding it again was the only way I found to stop it.
