yosemite - belkin thunderbolt express dock not working

I updated my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) to OS X 10.10 yesterday and now, my Belkin Express Dock is not working anymore. Connecting to the Ethernet using the normal "native" Apple adapter (Thunderbolt - Ethernet) works ok, printing via USB works ok, but NOT when trying to connect through the Belkin Express Dock.

I had a look at Belkin's support pages, but couldn't find anything relevant there.

Anybody, any idea?

Jamsden's solution of adding a "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Controller" under System Preferences/Network/[left hand panel] worked well for me.

The other "Add Service" options, "Thunderbolt Bridge", "Thunderbolt 1", and "Thunderbolt FireWire", didn't seem to do anything useful.

I used the same panel's gear or config pulldown menu to rename the "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Controller" service to "Belkin Dock" to be more recognizable.

Thanks Jamsden!

I just purchased Belkin Thunderbolt Dock (the first model, not thunderbolt 2) and ethernet is not working with MacBook Pro 15" Late 2013 running Yosemite (10.10.2). I have tried everything but it still doesn't work. What i did was:

1) disconnected the dock from the computer

2) created a new network "Location" from the Network preferences under System Preferences

3) deleted all automatically suggested network connections for my new "Location"

4) connected Belkin Thunderbolt Dock back to the computer

5) created a "new service" for my new "Location" by pressing "+" and selected "Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Controller" from the "Interface" drop down menu

6) after that it takes few seconds and this "new service" finds IP address and shows green light and connection "Status" is "Connected"
7) despite the green light the network doesn't work

I have also restarted and unplugged cables etc. but network just doesn't work. Any ideas?

Timo

I too had this problem and just figured it out. Jamsden is correct that you need Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet controller set up in your network settings. That seems to work for some people, but that alone didn't work for me.

I had to adjust the DNS settings to our network's DNS server. To do that, I went in to my original settings, selected the Thunderbolt Ethernet, then hit the Advanced button at the bottom. At the top, select the DNS tab. Write down your DNS settings (I had 2 entries).

Go back to the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet controller that you added (or which may already exist), and be sure it has the same DNS settings. That fixed it for me. I'm lucky I thought of that - not sure why I did!

If you are not sure how to add the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet controller, one of the posts provides some instructions.

Good luck.

I advised someone with a new macbook pro to buy this dock, and we had the same problem with not being able to work the ethernet device. This time, adding the 'Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet' device was not an option.

We tried deleting the location, rebooting, unplugging, etc., but nothing seems to work.

Any hints?
