I have an iPhone 4s which was running fast until iOS8. Why does Apple claim it needs to slow down older phone models running newer iOS's? If this happened with iMacs or laptops, I'm sure there would be lawsuits and people leaving the Apple brand. I feel users are expecting FASTER speed with new updates, not SLOWER. I hear older Android models do not experience slow down with new operating system updates. Is this true?

iOS 8 is designed to run on the latest processor
The iPhone 4S is now an old (very) old technology by comparison
The alternative I imagine would have been to drop the iP4S as was done with the iP4 Then you would be complaining about that
same DOES happen with Macs and every other technology device out there from every manufacturer

Not sure Apple says it "needs" to. It's just the inevitable consequence of more sophisticated, powerful software not running so well on older processors. The PC I had 5 years ago wouldn't run Windows 8.
What's interesting is that my 4S has shown no signs of "slowing down" with iOS 8. Perhaps there is something wrong with your phone, or there is some app running in background that is consuming processor cycles.
most android phones stop getting android os upgrades much sooner then ios devices
thats the other side of the medal really my ipad2 got slowed a bit down by iso8 but my iphone4 could not get ios 8 at all
this result in all the apps in app store that now require ios8 (many do) will not work on my iphone4 so even if serious bugs are found in some app I use then I will never be able to get the update
