Q: How do I sync my contacts across all my devices?
I have a 13" macbook air running Yosemite, as well as an iPhone 5S and iPad Air both running iOS 8.1. Since late in mavericks (before the iOS 8 upgrade), I've noticed that my contacts on my iPhone don't update on my MacBook, and vice versa. How do I sync my contacts so that my mail lists, contacts, etc show up on all the devices? Isn't this supposed to be one of the benefits of the iCloud????

So that wasn't helpful, and I tried this (http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS2481) also, but it didn't do any good either. Here's what did work...
In computer preferences, I had icloud turned on and contacts activated, but within the contacts app, there was no account associated. So I activated my account WITHIN my contacts application.
Next, I went to my iPhone and turned contacts off within icloud settings. Immediately after, I turned it back on. The contacts all synced immediately. I then went in to the contacts app on the computer and merged all the duplicates.
Voila, it's working.
