A good idea is to restore the iOS device to its factory default state, so you have a clean and fresh install of the system on your device. I'll include some links for backup procedures, if you can do that now. If not, it will tell you how to deal with them if you already have them from before. Then the last link is for resetting your iOS device to its factory default state.

Oct 29, 2014 9:06 AM in response to gasmacby Demo,What you might want to consider is to turn off your firewall and antivirus software when you update or restore your devices. The software maybe getting corrupted during the download because of the AV software interfering with the download

Oct 29, 2014 2:10 PM in response to Star Travelerby gasmac,Thanks to you both. Managed to "recover"" both devices but just curious that 2 different devices, used by 2 different individuals,occasionally synched but to 2 different Macs, should fail in an identical fashion within 2 weeks
