Hi,
Have you some news about this problem?
Thanks.
Hi George,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
The incoming mail server is grayed out because of a new feature in Yosemite that automatically keeps your email acount server settings up to date. To learn more about this feature, and how you can turn it off to be able to manually edit your server information, please see the link below.
Advanced accounts preferences - Mail Help
Cheers,
Alex H.
Try deleting the account and setting it up manually - fill in the 1st screen, then hold down the option/alt key while clicking to the next screen.
Go to Mail
Select/open Mail Preferences
Select/Open Accounts
In the Sidebar select the account you wish to be able to modify
You will then see the option to select Advanced
When selected your first choice controls whether or not this feature is performed manually or by the system
Provided you remember to "save" the preference first, of course. I habitually save preferences simply by clicking on another account and back in the account I'm working with. Other ways, but that's fast.
Thanks. I was able to turn this truly silly feature off with your directions.
The actual solution (steps to resolve) is two posts down from this one.
I am having a similar problem with Mail in Yosemite 10.10.4
Using connection doctor I saw that Mail was able to connect to the internet but all accounts in the Connection Doctor showed red dots.
I've been through days of trying to solve this with my telco, the tech seemed to think it was a problem with Mail, so I tried Thunderbird and the same problems occurred, Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your account.
This is nonsense, why do my accounts work on my iPhone and all of a sudden not on my MAC. I can not edit pop incoming mail servers for the life of me. Regardless of editing incoming pop mail servers, it appears that the MAC settings are not acceptable yet the same settings on my iPhone are acceptable.
yes. By disabling the setting "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" you can update the Mail account, which also seems to update the system wide "internet account" details. Truly horrible Apple
Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
People you simply have to reset and this is the correct advice - apple will not print it but will give it to you on phone support.

Hi Alex, Your answer would be a lot more helpful if you specified the section people need to refer to instead of linking to a page with lots of information to wade through.
